Piercings...

I think one of my piercing has a little infection, its like 4 months old though. I was wondering what I should do, just short of removing it. Maybe clean it everyday with bactine and put vacitration(sp??) around the outside??

Toolgirl had a piercing get infected once. She ended up taking antibiotics so you might think about seeing a doc about it.

micitracin.
yes but dont use that until the heaslin is almost complete..
Keep plenty of Hydrogen Peroxide on it. also very important to keep moving the rinf/bar/piercing around to keep it from matting up.. also if you stop by your local piecer. they should have a cleaning/anitbacterial solution for you.

micitracin?? I'm assuming thats over the counter stuff, and with the peroxide, rotate the ring with the peroxide still applied(making sure the perixode gets inside the hole)??

You're probably better off NOT using peroxide and the like -- they work by eating away cells, which is what you do NOT want with a hole going through your body. Rinse twice a day or so with a saline solution or simply water; if you really want to, you can get a gentle product like "EarCare" which is formulated to help heal piercings. Soak the piercing in a warm sea salt water solution to help draw out the infection. If it gets noticeably worse, call your piercer for advice and/or your doctor so you can get an antibiotic. Otherwise, just take care of it, don't play with it (twisting your jewelry around too much -- you can get even more bacteria into the piercing that way, so doing the equivalent of pulling a CBR through once or twice a few times a day is PLENTY), and let it heal. [edit]If you believe your jewelry is irritating you, replace it with a smaller gauge and/or with something non-allergenic: surgical stainless steel or a pure precious metal like gold would be good choices. Ask your piercer.[/edit]

If it is infected the last thing you wanna do is take it out right now. Buy some antibacterial soap such as dial and clean it with a qtip...never ever touch your ppiercing or the area around it with your fingers. Water and salt go good too if you wanna try that..after it heals than remove it if you like.

Um I would think that once it heals he would keep it, wouldn't it be a waste of money otherwise?

Where is the piercing man? Like this dude who I quoted said, Warm-Hot Water and SEA Salt works wonders. Oh yeah, I would also get some Betadine man. That stuff is great for cleansing the skin.

All of my piercing except for one has gotten infected and I have had five. Two (nipples) were due to the piercer being an idiot, and I had to take them out, but the other two were because of me . I don't have that great of an immune system. Meaning that my body cannot fight off the littlest germ very well. For my ear I used a combination of the betadine, Dial Soap (the yellow stuff), and the Sea Salt/Water mixture and all of them have turned out great.

My other was my toungue. It really didn't get infected, it just took a longer time than usual to heal. Combination of Listerine and the Sea-Salt/Water mixture worked great.

It is just like sky-diving man. It isn't about getting poked with a needle. It is about the rush that you get from the pain.

Why don't you just punch yourself in the nads a couple times a day? You can enjoy the pain with no holes. 🙂

what makes you think it's infected?
where is the piercing?

if you are positive it's infected, first try to draw the puss out by soaking it a few times a day with very warm salt water(not too much salt, should taste a little less salty than your tears) use cotton balls if it's somewhere that you can't dip it. if it's very infected, go to a doctor and get some antibiotics. DO NOT USE PEROXIDE or other things like bactine, they just dry it out and will make it hurt more. do not take the jewlery out, as it will seal the infection inside. i suggest taking a gander at this and this

Nutdotnet-

Sometimes a persons body will keep rejecting a piercing, when it heals it can easily get infected again. So sometimes there is no choice but to remove it but you never wanna remove it while it is still infected.

The piercing is in my nipple. I actually have both done but one seems worse then the other. I'm gonna try that salt water and dail soap method, then go and pick up some more specific piercing care stuff.

LOL Kilgor, I can't wait till bruised testacles become all the rage. "Man that's a fine pair of blueballs you got there."

You kidzzzzz Jeees........Get some Aloe vera jell........Clean it with betadine a few times a day.....paste some aloe clean after 3 or so hours.
If you cannot get aloe get Neosporin jell.........Keep it CLEAN

I?m not into the pain thing really. But I wouldn?t mind poking them with needles. That way I could sorta know how it feels to get jabbed with metal rods... 😉

The worst thing you can do is but betadine or any sort of alcohol on it. It only dries out the skin and makes things worse.
Try salt water soaks - make sure to rinse the piercing clean and then don't touch it unless you clean it again.
Only clean it about once a day.
You can also use some anti-biotic soap. Leave it on the piercing for about a minute or so before rinsing it off good.

Don't use anti-bacterial ointment. Any ointment will just trap dirt and could make the infection worse.

Just for clarification: I went to the doctor because it was my nipple that got infected and I actually developed a little lump in the breast. For a minor infection you shouldn't need any antibiotics. Simply cleaning it should take care of the problem.
If it gets really bad, however, with pain, swelling, and major discharge, then you definitely wanna see a doctor.

If you have an infection - do not take out the piercing - that could potentially trap the infection inside your body and cause a huge mess.

PM me if you have any questions. 🙂

What sucks is having them pierced for 2 years (completely healed), having to take them out for a week, then losing the jewlry and not having the money to replace them...Now to decide if i want to get them again...that is more pain, at least mental pain..hehe.
