ok im piecing togther a gaming tower as i get money. but here is my question when you are building a tower what do you buy first. cuz basicaly i have 200 dollars to spend at newegg(restriced to there cuz gc) right now and not sure what part to get first. so what would you suggest i get first? should i get a bunch of the parts like case, hdd, cd/dvd, psu. or go a head and get my cpu and maybe some ram if i have left over money, or just get a nice mobo and case. please help out im just not sure what to get first.

i do know what direction im going im going with a sb set up

Decide what case you want first. That will determine what CPU cooler and video card options you will have. (width of case = CPU cooler height, depth of internals in case = video card length)

how does that look? for a entry/mid level rig?

It is logical to get the case, then PSU, then mobo, CPU, cooler, RAM, etc. But, my way would be to save the money and keep adding to it instead of buying piecemeal. You can often get a better deal by bundling, i.e., buying it all at once. There are a few advantages to this: 1. Lower total cost; 2. better technology; 3. assurance it will all play together. 4. Better warranty support.

That is not a good ideas, get everything at once, if something goes wrong you can RMA it to Newegg. You don't want to have to RMA to the Manufacturer if something is defect on a new build.

i understand what your saying. but im a college student and im piceing it togther as i get the money and im able to get those parts for a trade of a laptop i dont need anymore because i have a new i5 m480 laptop that i use for school now. but im needing tower rig now for some editing and programming and mild gaming. and i have birthday money im going to use once checks clear my account to get my mobo/cpu

Why are you buying fans and expensive RAM? That case comes with two fans already. An i3's TDP is only 65W and it can't be overclocked.

This RAM is fine:

Or if you want $200:

that has given me something to think about. im getting the expinsive ram so i dont have to upgrade it later, fans because it does not have any front fans, and can you go more indepth or give a link to explaining the thing about tdp of a i3 and i dont plan on oc much if at all for a long while

im getting the expinsive ram so i dont have to upgrade it later,

That makes no sense. Both are 8GB kits, yours just costs more.
Sandy Bridge sees no benefits from DDR 1600 over 1333.

fans because it does not have any front fans,

You don't need front fans.

and can you go more indepth or give a link to explaining the thing about tdp of a i3

Sandy Bridge doesn't put out much heat. Unless you're going to do something ridiculous like put a GTX 480 or two in there, you just don't need that much cooling.
My BiL's Phenom II 945 with Radeon 6770 gets along just fine with only a single 80mm rear-intake fan to go along with the PSU and video card exhausts.

Now that makes sense now that u explain it. I think I'll look at my order again and see if I can manage to get my mobo aswell in this order

😕
Unless something's changed...you linked to a single 4 Gb stick of RAM in that build...
