Was the GTO ever intended to be retro?

It's just a rebadged Holden product, nothing retro about except the name.

You people must be blind. It looks fantastic. Too bad they want to us the Zeta platform. The GTO is HEAVY.

They probably don't like Chevys or GMs to begin with.

I like it.

That's EXACTLY what I hated about the new GTO. They had no business using that name at all!

if every generation of a car looked the same, why bother updating the looks period? why make the new GTO look like the old GTO? Why does a car have to look retro? Why not buy an old version, go true retro, and put a new engine in it? there, problem solved. you got what you want, a car that looks old.
sometimes people want new cars, to uh.. look new? thus each generation tends to look different.

Hmm, is that? Yeah, it is. A car. A tool for transporting my body from one location to another.

Do you own a Honda, by chance?

"tool for transporting body from one location to another" = any Honda, Camry, Corolla...etc.

The car in the OP is for someone who wants to enjoy the ride.
That said, it's awesome...hopefully GM doesn't fugly it up before they actually release it...

uh, so you are crackin on people that dont own, nor want to own, muscle cars and/or cars meant to race?
not everyone wants to break speedlimits, or even legally race for that matter. others like speeding but can go with something that doesn't fly.

Can you say HEMI CHALLENGER Baby!!??

I might have to give up my first born for one of these.....(Well OK, not him, but maybe trade mama in on it.....)

Bob
that looks badass

and i too, will never own a GM product
that Challenger would see my driveway faster than any ford or gm car
i'd own a ford truck, but will take a dodge truck first.. hell toyota will probably see my driveway first as a truck... not counting my dakota sport ;)

Ralphie's old man "It's...it's smiling at me", as he pointed at the Chinese roasted duck, aka, the Chinese turkey, the chef promptly cut off the head. One of the funny moment in "A Christmas Story". This car is smiling at me, and GM needs to fix that comical front. Muscle cars need to look intimdating, not like a clown.

I'm not "cracking down" on anyone. Whatever a person wants to drive is fine by me. My point is, the people who view cars as a "tool to go from A-B" as stated in the post I was responding to, tend to view driving as a necessary chore - not something that gives them any enjoyment.

These people seem to care only about resale value, safety features, perceived reliability, and gas mileage. Which are things that your cookie-cutter Corolla, Camry, Accord, Civic type cars do well. However, acceleration and handling - or any performance characteristics, for that matter - are not.

In other words, someone who makes a statement such as "a car is a tool to get from point A to B" is understandably not going to care about this car. Those folks are not the target demographic. That's the point I was making.

What's with all of the sharp edges on some of these cars nowadays? I prefer the smooth flowing body lines.

Like the nondescript lozenge-shaped crap that keeps being foisted upon the public? I'll take my creases, thanks.

I rather like the Camaro concept. I think that the front facia is a little too "heavy" visually though. The grill section needs to take up more of the vertical space and the bumper should be de-emphasised visually. As it is, I think the car has too much of a "chin", it's kinda like the Jay Leno of Camaros.

It would practically be a requirement, to get any sort of sales numbers out of it - and also, to compete with the Mustang. Although you always hear about the V8 versions of this type of car, the majority of Mustangs / Camaros / Firebirds sold in the past were the V6 and 4 cylinder base models.

Once again, I have to disagree. Better than the Charger, yes, but I'm very fond of the Challenger concept.

Have to say though NFS, while I may disagree with you on styling for cars, you damn sure know your stuff. And judging from the pics, your taste in the female of the species more than excuses your eccentricity in automotive preferences. ;) Fighured I'd at least throw in some respect and agreement since I'm generally an ass about my different styling preferences. :p

Lookie who's descending from Mt. Olympus to grace us with a post! Howdy, John! And I agree, the gorgeous flowing lines of the late-mid '60's GM coke bottle shape ftw!
