Pictures of my LCD Mod

finally got some pictures up. 15inch lcd mounted on the side of my case for easier LAN sessions. no more heavy monitors! woo woo. The pictures are on my site. (no idea what i want to do with the site yet) Modstation.com.

Looks cool. Two questions.

What's the total weight of the LCD and case with stuff included?

Any electrical interferance problems with the 15" LCD so close to the motherboard?

Details, give us details!!

Excellent mod, I can't stand dragging my stuff around (full tower and 21" monitor) to network with friends, and my zillion dollar laptop which is only two years old is already outdated.

Excellent!

Excellent job on the Mod. Now, if you could have put a swivel on that bad boy (ala the new iMacs) then you could turn the screen in towards the case as protection when carrying to and from. Something to think about for the future maybe but I don't know where you'd find that sort of swivel mount.
Nice idea and great job though!

Nice job 😉 I saw your case in the "Show your case" thread over in the Hard Forums. Do those 2 hinges securely hold that monitor there? My dad's NEC 18" LCD is very heavy... just wondering if the Lian Li door can support that much weight and if the plastic behind the LCD can 🙂

well.. i used the pc65 side panel cuz it's reinforced with metal brackets, but i think i need a more secure method. the total weight of the lcd is 9lbs. i'm not too sure if that's gonna hold up so i'm gonna put one of those lil kickstands that keeps doors open.. and have it mounted on the left side. hehe.. get it?

That's creative! 😀 Now, could you reinforce the case's side panel, perhaps add a layer of lexan inside to spread the stress out? Even some large-diameter washers would help. I put a drawer handle on top of a microATX Inwin V500 case at work so I can carry it around (it's our pinch-hitter when a regular system is down) and I took that approach. Although the system weighs perhaps 15 pounds, the washers spread the stress out quite well. I'm not seeing any dimpling of the top panel.

dieselstation, excellent mod, I added your website to my favorites, post some more pics when you get a chance 🙂

WOW! That's all I got to say. That's one of the best mods I've seen. I guess it's too late for you to break it down with pictures and explainations on how you did things?

Sweetness. I have a question about the rigidtiy of the case. Does the Al flex at all when the monitor is extended (what i mean does it visibly deform) If it doesnt the Al side panel might be good to hold it. I would do like other people suggest though and spread out the moment(bending force) you are placing on the case if you didnt do so already a thin peice of metal between the nuts and the aluminum case would be good if you have some scrap lying around.

i added 2 more pictures to the site. one of them shows the back of the side panel and how i attached it. as you can see, it's got a big piece of metal running the length of the panel that basically reinforces it already. the weight doesn't bend the side panel very much when it's installed so i think it'll hold up fine.

Dude, that rocks. I have come up with some good things to try but I never thought of that. I guess ill have to go buy an LCD to go with my Lian-Li lan project now.

Thanks for the great idea.

Nice Work!
Really cool mod. What about putting some sort of flip down support under the exteded side to lessen the stress on the case? Just a thought, maybe a small caster.
Anyway, good job.
