Actually, that's not the case. The reason that Google's offices are comfortable is because the founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page wanted to give Google a collegiate atmosphere, because they said that they were laid back people themselves .

That hippie shtick is already starting and will continue to change, once Google becomes a real company, instead of just living on advertising revenue.

I like my 8-4:30 job well enough thank you. Spending 12 + hours a day at work would not be fun. Even with all the frills at Google. Definitely a clever way of running their business though. Make work a fun place where people want to be, they will spend more time at the office and productivity goes up. They're definitely not stupid. However it almost seems like they're tricking them into working longer, lol.

Edit: Thinking about this some more, I'm betting the next step in the evolution, will be Google building an office where there are apartments built into the building. Your office will connect to your apartment, and you will basically live at work. Think I'm right?

I agree, yeah it looks cool and they have great accommodations but I'd rather not have to work 12+ hours a day. I'd rather eat at home with my gf then in the cafeteria at work no matter what they serve. THe idea of having your home right there doesn't seem very far off from this. Definetly not for me.

yeah and I've seen pics where they play roller hockey out in the parking lot... but you know what ? It's all necessary because of all the job stress. No thanks for me.

The pay is rather low too. Unless you got in pre-ipo days it's not worth it IMO. That's for entry/mid/senior level positions, of coursse management is another story all together.

I'm with you. I would not be willing to give up my job either to work at Google. I love it where I work.

As far as your office will connect to your apartment...I can work from home any day of the week so I guess I'm already set up like that :D

Not true, My dad was offered a job, and turned it down. Although he sees the potential money he could've had because of the stocks, he's much happier with what he is doing now then what he thought he'd be at Google.

I agree that the pay is rather low for a well-known company...$40K to start. Plus, it's in the Bay Area.
