Pictures from my trip to Nicaragua!

I was in Nicaragua from February 18th till February 25th. Let me just say that it was definitely a huge eye opener. The way these people live is so different than in the US. Some of my girl's cousins only make $100/month ($100 USD, not $100 Cordoba - the Nicaraguan currency, and $1USD = $17 Cordoba). However they live okay over there because stuff is much cheaper. They also work MUCH MUCH less than we do over here and get to enjoy their lives much differently than we do in the US.

Also, many of the stereotypes of spanish people that I see in the US now make much more sense to me after visiting this country, because over there, it's part of every day life. I am not going to go into that though because I'm sure people on here will turn this into a racist thread, so anyways, enjoy the pics.

Coming back to work today sucks. The cold weather here in Maryland is probably just as worse. My throat hurts from the cold air, and I had the shlts after I ate my first meal here in the US (burger king at the Miami airport).

Looks nice, but how does it compare to Aruba? They claim Nicaragua is going to be the new tourist/retirement location for North Americans.

BTW, I feel your pain with all the no AC pics.

Nicaragua Retirement

its MUCH different than Aruba. It's not really a beach place. The only thing even close to Aruba was Corn Island, but that island was hardly developed yet and was still very poor.

The no AC wasn't even an issue. The homes were very cool becase of breezes going through them all the time, and it wasn't humid at all. The 2 resorts we went to were AC powered in our rooms however.

I could see it as a retirement place simply because its so damn cheap to live there. You could EASILY get by with $200 USD/mo living in the normal places where my GF's uncles and cousins live. However I don't think the medicare over there is what you'd want if you were in your retirement years.

I didn't look at all your pics, and have never been there. (but have visited 3rd world countries) I don't think you saw the real Nicaragua. Looks like her relatives are "well off" and you were visting a beach resort.

From the cia factbook
Nicaragua, one of the hemisphere's poorest countries, faces low per capita income, widespread underemployment, and a heavy external debt burden. Distribution of income is one of the most unequal on the globe
