ProfJohn, judging by the middle pic you posted (where she's holding the carnation) it looks to me around a stop underexposed. If you're not seeing that on your monitor, time for (re)calibration, and also check the amount of ambient light when you're editing - it makes a big difference.

And, of course, always check the histogram. 😉

ProfJohn,

Using Adobe Camera RAW and editing based on the histogram, this would be the "correct" exposure. Now, there's nothing wrong with intentionally keeping the image dark. People will get all over you for not taking the picture correctly, though. In the end, it's your art, and they can all go to hell, haha.

Lovely image, by the way.

.

...Until he tries to print it and there's no detail left in most of the image.

Is that the Nikon one??

That is on my short list of things to buy. Heard it is a fantastic portrait lens.

70-200 2.8 is next and then perhaps the 85mm

I took a photojournalism course this semester to learn how to take pictures. Still learning. Here's a couple I've shot. I'm using a Canon EOS D60 with a 72mm zoom lens.

Lol, 72mm is the diameter of the filter ring on the front of the lens. That's the size of filter the lens will take, whether it be a UV filter, polarizer, etc.

The lens you're using is actually the Canon EF 28-135mm IS 😉

See, still learning. Yeah, you're right.

Playing with "Exposure Fusion" on Photomatix. It works great in instances where tone mapping fails (and vice versa).

7 shots, +/- 1EV
