Picture resizer / optimizer

What's a good program to resize images (say to about 80% of original) and to optimize them to cut down on file sizes (making them easier to email?

I know Photoshop is excellent at this, but I need to do it for over 200 pictures and would like to set the settings and just click one button.

Adobe ImageReady is good for that, but I don't know if it can do 200 at a time like you want...

i know... but it's not good for batch image reformatting like i need

photoshop can do that, has something called batch mode or something, can resize pictures, create photoalbums, auto level them and more.

dont remember it exactly and I dont have photoshop installed

when I did it the last time I just created a photoalbum and set the thumb size to the desired size and it was all done, worked great
I know its possible to just pick resize without creating a photoalbum but I'm not exactly sure how

They are called Actions. Go search for it. It's basically a macro and very easy to set.

yeah, but Actions are only for 1 picture at a time. I'd have to click "run" for each damn picture. Highly annoying.

C'mon... I know there are some 3rd party apps out there. Nobody's used one?

You can batch process images using actions in Photoshop as well.

File>Automate>Batch

Choose the folder with the pics, the action/action set, out put folder. Kick back

I just downloaded Irfan View today. It looks like it can do what you're looking for. I used it to batch convert files from *.wmf to *.jpg.

Batch conversion/Rename - Use advanced options - Set advanced options - resize.

i second Irfanview.

It's one of those MUST HAVE! programs! it easily batches files, does thumbnails, mass renames, it also has that resize feature you were looking for. I love it because it creates the most efficient file size with the best quality. Photoshop doesn't do that.

Usually when i'm done in photoshop, i open the same image again in irfanview and resave it again without changing anything. the filesize usually drop significantly without and noticeable drop in quality. like going from a 150k file to 50k.
