Picture quality question about new LCDs

I just got a new monitor LG L196WTQ-BF and it has a little area and the bottom right that's slightly brighter than the rest...not sure what's causing this, but will this kind of thing go away?

On the same topic, does blacklight bleed eventually dissappear after some use...ie is there some break-in period for LCDs before things improve or is this just wishful thinking?

I don't think the bleed will disappear. I used an LG L1710B and it never went away. It just depends on the monitor. The BenQ I have has almost none. It is a very uniform picture everywhere on the screen.

With lower quality LCD's it's important that you look directly at the screen, if you look at it from different angles you will get bad backlighting problems. If it's really distracting even when looking at it straight on maybe it's a bad one, possible RMA.

I don't know a few Samsung lcds I've been testing seem to look a lot better after a few days use than when they are new out of the box. To begin with they look very washed out but the colors seem to get more vibrant as times goes on. You might think my eyes are tricking me and I am getting used to the colors but like I said I've been playing with a few and there is something to it.

It's almost impossible to get an LCD with no backlight bleeding, all of them will have it to some degree.

Does anyone else know if that's true about the colors? How long would it take?
The only LCD I've ever had (Acer 19") looked washed out so I returned it after a few days and went back to my Sony CRT. I took a picture of it.

I had to "fiddle" with my acer about 20minutes before i decided it was tolerable. But out of the box it wasn't that great.

It was my first widescreen monitor, but now I think i'm going to buy a highquality monitor now.. Instead of going for the good deal monitor.

That's interesting.

I have a small "zone" on my monitor that is brighter (read: NOT backlight bleed) than the rest, I'm hoping this will even out over time.

Perhaps it will be a similar process as yours.

Most of the problems mentioned in this thread won't fix themselves over time.

If you are unhappy with your LCD, then you should exchange it before you lose the ability to do so. Many people keep their monitors for years; it really pays to get one that you can be happy with. The frustrating part is that the public isn't better informed about things like bad backlight bleeding--until it happens to them.
