I walked outside today and found a branch lying infornt of my car. It had fallen over the night onto the hood of my car leaving 4 dents in the hood. 3 of the dents are about 2-3 inches in diameter with the 4th dent about 1-2 inches in size.The dents in the pictures didnt turn up too well because of the color of the car and the surrounded trees (reflections), but I tried my best.

Picture #1 - Side view off the hood that shows all dents.
Picture #2 - The tree whose brach fell onto my car. I had to park there lastnight because the driveway was full.
Picture #3 - One of the big dents.
Picture #4 - Head on view of dented hood.
Picture #5 - Top down view of dents.
Picture #6 - Shot down the hook toward the front of the car. Here, the biggest dent is visible.
Picture #7 - Picture of my Fiancee's dog running up and down the hallway when I came into the house (I felt obligated, since I had the camera in hand).

Oh, and BTW...I didnt get a picture of the branch because it suffered my wrath! 🙂

Anyone have any idea's how much this might cost to get it fixed? I do have insurance, but am a little reluctant to report it for my insurance payments would go up, correct?

Ugh...frustration is setting in! 🙁

Warcrow... I remember looking at your RX7 page not too long ago... VERY SWEET car.

Very sorry to see this, but to be honest, the dents don't look that bad. You might be able to get a dentpopper or something, and maybe pull the dents out.

What does it cost to get a new hood for your car?
 
Paintless dent repair!! Should be an easy job since it's on the hood and there's easy access to the backside (Hehehe). If there's no paint damage, you won't even be able to tell the dents were ever there.
 
you can try paintless dent removal places

other than that, just buy a CF hood and paint it (please for the love of god paint it)

This looks like an ideal candidate for paintless dent repair, given the ready access to the back of the panels. You might even be able to do it yourself. If it were me I might not bother to fix it, but I can tell you are a lot more detail-oriented than I when it comes to such things.

p.s.: I suspect that dog must have been involved in some form or fashion. He looks like a troublemaker.

Unavoidable damage that falls under the 'act of God' category?? I find it funny, as long as no one got hurt! Same thing happened to my mom's car...except it was a whole tree that had fallen. Luckily it was a small fir tree and the car was covered with ice so there was only minor cosmetic damage.

 
oh no, poor RX-7!!! If you're concerned about insurance, just call up your agent and ask...hehe, I don't know if they could put something in the system just because you ask about it. Other than that, paintless dent removal sounds good. And take more pics afterwards. of the whole car. 😉

Paintless dent repair on the two dents in the door of my F150 is going to run 150, and they are going to buff the entire truck (this is from macco) As long as there is no major paint damage (ie: through the clear coat) the dents can be fixed for fairly cheap and you can buff the hood yourself.

Although, if you are getting quotes in the $400 range, I would buy a carbon fiber hood, you should be able to pick one up for 350-500.

I thought the Paintless Dent Remover dudes charged around $75 per panel. Since it's only one hood, it should only be around that or $125 at most.

Edit: BTW, I thought if you made a claim thru your Comprehensive coverage, your insurance rates do not go up. Is this true?
 
Black and very dark colors show damage worse than any other car. It is going to be visible unless it's repaired by a professional. No, the home dent kits don't work, at least if you want professional results.

Look up "dent wizard" or someone like that. As long as the paint is not broken, it is an ideal candidate. As for those who says it's easy to get to the back, you've obviously never worked in a bodyshop. Many times hoods are the hardest to repair because of the structure underneath the skin.

The paint is not cracked, but I'm afraid of making it worse. How do I know if a body shop is reliable...and whats a good price? It was mentioned above that if it going to cost $300-$400 to repair, that I just get anew hood.
