Here are the pics of the ripped out tree that I said I would post....

That's the wife in the last pic. The tree is roughly 50-60ft tall. I'll have to cut it up (into less than 6ft pieces) over the next few days in order to have the town get rid of it for me. Otherwise I'll need to pay somone to take it.

Takes alot to do that to a tree of that size, and like Eli said, its not dead, replant, though it might be very hard to plant it again if there is frost in the ground.

What sortof a camera did you use?

I used my Kodak DC4800. I dont think it's going to be worht the trouble to replant it. I was never a big fan of evergreen trees for landscaping, but they were there when we bought the house. Right now, the ground is still pretty frozen so it would have to wait awhile anyways....and I'd like to get it out of the yard as soon as I can.

Good thing it didn't fall onto the road and snag the powerlines, or was it to far from them. maybe if it did fall onto the road though, the city would chopped it up for you.

It would be pretty hard to replant, but if you did it right, it would certainly live. Just depends on what you think is easier, and what you want with your yard. ;)

The ground being still frozen shouldn't really matter. If he was going to replant it, he would have to prepare the spot where it used to go.. There's snow on the ground there, but it's not freezing, if you look at the road. The most important part is getting the roots back in the ground. It's cold and the tree is probably still dormant, so you have some time. It's when the days are warmish and the nights are freezing that sap starts to flow.

The hardest part would be propping it back up. It probably weighs ~750lbs.

I suppose if you don't really care for the tree, then it's probably not worth picking it back up, and then securing it in place. But if you want to save it.. now is about the only chance you have.. while it's still young. If it does it again 25 years from now, you may as well forget it. ;)

My friend in Henrietta had a 40 footer go and take the power lines with it. He has not had power since midnight Saturday. So like a fool he stays in the house and it got down to 48 degrees in his living room last night. And this is with a generator running along with some small electric heaters. He even took a shower this morning! Haha, I told him he is a fool.

You might try to give it to someone, I guess many people would want a tree that old and big.

lol.. Interesting idea.. You should try and sell it on Ebay.. U-Haul, of course.. lol..

It's actually not that old.. ~40 years, maybe.

Well, it's not old as far as I'm concerned at least. That little spruce is a sapling compared to the last of his big brothers up in Washington. :)

lol..selling it on ebay. Then again ive seen stranger things :)

It's funny how the tree fell down...it just missed the road and the Power lines, good thing I guess. But like you said, I was kinda hoping that it had fallen into the road because then the Highway Dept would have had to cut it up and move it that night. Oh well... Had it fallen the other way, it would have snagged the line coming into the house or fallen onto another tree in the yard...But it fell down directly between the road and the other tress/Power lines. It wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt so damn cold out.

Right now I have a sign hanging of off it .... "Free, local ppick up only" I see alot of people stopping and smiling. At least I can bring some humor to people on the way to work.

LOL :D

I like the ebay idea though, why not, just sell it for like $50-$100 and the buyer pays for shipping and handling :)

Use it as a tourist attraction. Charge 5 bucks for a pic posing with the tree!

There's a huge evergreen about 15 feet from my house that got damaged by the wind saturday night. It shifted about 2 meters toward the neighbor's lawn, but didn't fall over. About 80 feet high or so, +1 meter trunk at base. My dad is going to get rid of it because it's damaging the roof, probably going to fall over eventually, and is just ugly. Will cost about $850 (was $1000, but we got a decent estimate).

well i sure hope that the town will help with the pick up of this...now ay do i want to fork over that kind of cash for removal...but i imagine that includes cutting it down to size.

I doubt I'll replant. If anyone wants to, jut come and get it and its yours :)

lol...charge for photos...not a bad idea. :) I sent one of the pics to my buddy with the caption: " I told her not to tie the dog to the tree, but she wouldnt listen"....he found that pretty amusing

about a mile or two down from my house, a fir tree of about the same dimensions was ripped out of the ground exactly like that, fell across the road, knocked down the powerlines, and my neighborhood was without power for several hours last night (or was it the night before? Bah I cant rmemeber :p)
