That's the same heatsink from the GTX512, which is from the Quadro line. Heatpipes.

Glad they put the 512MB GTX cooler on the 7900GTX its a good cooler, it would be nice for it to exhaust hot air but its a good cooler no less.

lmao! i love the exaggerated scaling on the 3DMark graph to make it look like huge performance gains. BTW, is that compared to a 430mhz 7800GTX 256 or a 7800GTX 512. If it's compared to a 430core 7800GTX 256, that's not much at all.

I think I'm going to pick up and 7900 GTX on release. I have a feeling it may still perform better then the X1900 XTX, though I'm loving mine right now.
Oddly my X1900 performs better on stock settings then it does OC'd to 690/800.
No idea why, but I guess OC'ing doesnt always mean better gaming performance. Strangely, my OC'd card gets 200+ more points on 3Dmark05. More proof that 3dmark does not account for accurate games benchmarking.

Ok I'm looking at that 7900GT box and it looks like it says 24 pipelines on the box.....but i cant quite sharpen it enough to be sure....and you are saying a 24 pipe card will have that puny a$$ 7600GT HSF? Suddenly I'm thinking Zalman or or an Arctic Cooling to really get that baby to fly!

The 7900GT is 24 pipes. The 90nm core means it runs cooler than say 7800GTX256 which is very similar specs (same pipes, almost same clockspeed). However i agree that the heatsink is too small even for 90nm shrink.

I wonder how far it can overclock with a zalman vf700 or artic cooler.

i score in the ~4700 range in 06 with my 256MB 7800gtx at 490/1300. i was expecting to see more than ~5000.

So it's the 7800GTX 512MB cooler... Guess that makes sense - hopefully there's some o/c headroom too :) .

the 7900GT cooler looks...dinky and small. hopefully other manufacturers will slap on some REAL cooling.

im also glad that the 7900GTX cooler is the same one as the 7800GTX 512MB.

cant wait to see them in action. lets have those reviews and benchies AT *wink wink nudge nudge*!

One thing tells us that the move to 90nm lowk must have made the cards ALOT cooler.

Secondary the power requirments must be also low as the PCI-e connector on the 7600 PCB is missing.
Yea, the quadro cooler is a real success for a non 3rd party cooler. Its MUCH better than the Flow FX design and slightly better than ATis method. Its alot quite too.

So... where are the images in the links? (I joined and ensured images were enabled) there are no links to images either...

The B3D forums have a link to an image of 7900GT.

well...if those are real numbers

then the 7900 already lost out to the x1900 in synthetic benchmark (which usually give a good indication on what you would expect in real world performances)

oh wait a minute, the 7800 score looks right

but the 7900 gtx score seems kinda low to me
it's even lower than what a 512 gtx would get?!

is that even credible?!

its very possible as the stock memory is a bit lower than that of the 7800GTX 512 (1600 vs 1700+) i am sure there will be some overcklocked cards available.

The 7900GT's memory clocked at 1320Mhz doesn't seem too bad. Don't know if that's factory OC'ed or not but if you could get that memory to the 1400 range that's pretty good for a $300 card.

If so, then X1900XTX is faster.

X1900XTX = 7800GT SLI

3dMark06 comparison

Seems 5000+ > X1900XTX.

but again, thats no indication of anything. X1800XT loses to 7800GTX 256, but it wins in majority of benchmarks by 10-20%.

ROFL

They are comparing the 256MB GTX's score with the 7900GTX's score. :D IMO the 7900GTX will not look good in comparision with the 512MB GTX.
