Yeah, for $350 you did fine.

Also, white WAS a good choice, it will show off imperfections much less.
 
LOL, Most of you people on ATOT never have any nice to say.

Its a pretty nice paint job for $350.
When people check out your car, they don't usually take a close up look and tell you theres a smudge over here and there. NO, they take a quick glance and tell you how it looks.

Whats the warranty for the paint ??

Yeah I noticed those too - they look great on the MKIII!

As for the Painjob, not bad if you're planning on keeping it good looking for a short term period, I wouldn't expect it to hold up for too long though. I see some areas where they didn't mask properly and I have to say painting over the badges looks terrible, but I'm sure it's better than the old paint!

Looks much better than it did at least...but yeah, I've heard from a few different sources that maaco paint jobs will begin to peel after a year or two.

Maybe because it was originally white, and to paint the whole entire body a different color costs thousands more (disassembly to get into the door jambs, etc). Not doing it correctly would look horrible (i.e. painting it black when it was orig. white)
 
For the price, it's an excellent job.

I had a a car painted by Maaco. If I remember correctly, it was the same "Presidential" paint package. Anyway, it was a medium/light metallic blue going in and it was painted the "Dodge Viper" blue.

The result?

Well there were a couple of problems. The first thing I noticed was that on the hood you could see streaks where the painter didn't overlap enough as he was sweeping the gun. Basically the old paint was showing through the really thin areas. Second, and I kid you not, they painted over a big blob of bird crap on the hood. I'm serious. Sometime between prepping the car and painting it a bird managed to crap on my hood and they painted over it.

Also about a year later both of the flexible bumpers were badly cracked because they they don't add the flex additive to the paint nor do they use some of the better paints that will resist cracking on flexible surfaces. And paint chips on the hood? Don't get me started about chips.

I digress though. About the bird crap problem.... I pointed it out to the manager and he agreed to repair the problem after the paint had a chance to cure for a couple of weeks. When I brought it back to them he completely refused to repair the problem for free. Thats right. He lied to me the day I picked it up.

Well, thats my Maaco story.

Oh, btw. I got a quote from a reputable shop to paint my 240sx about an hour ago. $1800 + any necessary body work. (will easily rise to ~$3000 after all the little dings are fixed and the weatherstripping and such replaced). If I were only going to keep the car a few months I would jump on Maaco in a heartbeat but I will probably still have this car 2 or 3 years from now and there is no way a Maaco job will still look acceptable to me after that amount of time..
 
The extra work you put into the prep shows off now, you did a great job BTW.

For $350 you did great.

Did you really go to work for them? IIRC, you mentioned they offered you a job.

<---has actually painted his own van back in the 70's, it's a lot of work.
 
Most of you haven''t thought through what it takes to CHANGE the color of a car.

A lot of the interior has to come out to get the door sills. Trunk lid, hood, and doors have to come off to get the edges and seams. Etc., etc., etc.

And every chip &amp; scratch shows the orig color.

It's never a good idea to repaint a car a different color...
 
my dad took the toyota pickup (which was fine, but he makes bad decisions) that we have to maaco. i told him not to take it there, a person at his business was talking about it and my dad's inability to listen to family and listen to others won out (yet again). First, the paint was nowhere near oem... so before it was a dynamic deep red with some rock chips from normal wear and tear... after it was rather flacid dark red that did not shine nowhere near as much as before. Fast forward to a couple years to now. The paint is chipping off, very obvious around the door edge and tail gait edges. There is even chipping in flat spots on the side of the truck. Oh, and they did a bad job of taping so there is paint on parts that aren't supposed to be painted.

oh... and they didn't put on the "Toyota" symbol on the back and design on the side. So my dad went back and what did they do? They used some generic black tape. My dad went back again. Now it has a snakeskin sticker that they just covered over the old black tape.

You get what you pay for.
 
was it a single eurothane paint job or a base coat clear coat? if it was base and clear you got it at cost... single eurothane would be around 500$ for a whole car. Im assuming they didnt take body panels off or anything and just masked the whole car off?

you should buy a same truck with the same color; only used and with the earliest model year. so you can say, "Hey dad, my 1980 looks better than your 1990...."
