Now if anyone asks why I don't drink, I have an easy bookmark to point to! :D

Hope you get better soon, and DON'T LET THAT THING GET INFECTED.

ah that makes much more sense. i thought you were saying it was on the anterior side of your thigh, and that didnt make any sense to me. i now see that it is on the lateral portion of your thigh, and i can see it in the other pics.

um, wow
are you OK?
that looks awful, i would not know what to do with myself if that was me... :Q

i'm on percocet but when it doesn't really help much escpically when i have to pull the gauze off it.

I feel for you, I really do, I can only imagine the pain you are in, I remember the pain i was in when I accidentally shot myself hunting and had to have my leg amputated, and I actually had the skin stitched closed. The process of bandaging alone would bring tears to my eyes. The pain of the surgeries actually caused hallucinations... and I was on the strongest dose of morphine they could give me without killing me.

ah yes, the reason hydromoprhone and fentanyl were invented:)

seriously op, take care and do what the docs say on that....can't say i've seen an open fasciotomy like that leave the hospital. u might want to visit a medical supply store - they do have like full leg compresses that u could wear and then cut a nice big hole were the wound is open, then tape the bandages to the compress, avoid the irritation. i believe there are some TED compresses that u can buy that are full leg (obviously cut off the bottom and whatever over the top you don't need)
gl!

thanks for the advice
it's nice to here from people who have actually heard of a fasciotomy. How long have you seen doctors leave them open? I can't believe they would keep somebody in the hospital 6-8 weeks. Maybe most people don't have to have it open for so long.

i guess 6 weeks might be about normal, i wasn't the one actually working on any of those, so i can't say it was really something i took total notice of how long they were there to the day.
one thing u might want to look at or possibly discuss w/ your doctor is coating the wound w/ honey, at least around the edges. while it sounds crazy, honey, because of all the sugars in it contains an osmolarity that is too high for any microbe to penetrate/survive in. this means that no bacteria can live wherever u put a coat of honey - therefore, cheap, non-abrasive anti-infective.

i would seriously talk to your doc about perhaps some dilaudid (hydromorphone - ranges from 6 - 60x the strength of morphine depending on what source u choose, whichever, its good stuff:)) or duragesic patches - they provide a constant low dose of fentanyl for 72 hours in each patch.

Has anybody on here ever had a skin graft? The doctors said the spot they take the skin from feels like a ton of paper cuts and a sun burn at the same time. They are going to staple the skin graft to my leg then staple gauze over that, so no pics of the skin graft for about a week.
