i guess 6 weeks might be about normal, i wasn't the one actually working on any of those, so i can't say it was really something i took total notice of how long they were there to the day.
one thing u might want to look at or possibly discuss w/ your doctor is coating the wound w/ honey, at least around the edges. while it sounds crazy, honey, because of all the sugars in it contains an osmolarity that is too high for any microbe to penetrate/survive in. this means that no bacteria can live wherever u put a coat of honey - therefore, cheap, non-abrasive anti-infective.
i would seriously talk to your doc about perhaps some dilaudid (hydromorphone - ranges from 6 - 60x the strength of morphine depending on what source u choose, whichever, its good stuff

) or duragesic patches - they provide a constant low dose of fentanyl for 72 hours in each patch.
