You should pretend for a couple minutes that you're not anti-GM. Why don't you like them anyways?

Very interesting car, nonetheless.. I wonder if the design looks too old though like the Cruiser or Prowler...
Thumbs up from me anyways!

Why don't I like them?? Their interiors are sh!t and their cars looks like sh!t. The only good looking GM cars were the Oldsmobiles (Aurora, Intrigue, Alero), but they ditched them!! :|

Cavalier <-- Cavalier my ass...more like subpar in every way
Impala <-- not even worthy of wearing the nameplate
Malibu <-- Rental car fever
Monte Carlo <-- stoopid ugly
Grand Am <-- ribbed for her pleasure
Rendevous <-- Aztek on Prozac
Aztek <-- laughing stock of the auto industry
Sunfire <-- how ugly can you get

They are all ugly as sin. And neither one of them has an interior that competes with anything else in its class. The only reason to buy them is b/c GM offers steep discounts.

Well so far you've stated that you like the Aleros but not the Grand Ams or Malibus.. yet they're all N-Bodies and look quite similar? You are also stating that you hate cars because they frequent rental lots? How does that make a car bad?

I'm not a huge fan of J-Bodies but the Cavalier is much better looking than the Sunfire.

While in general the interiors aren't the best, I have no rattles/squeaks/etc... in my car. And as always, looks are opinions. I did notice that you didn't talk about Cadillac or Saab? Don't like those either or what? Cmon.. what do you drive... a Camry? Good reliability is about all that bland looking car will have... maybe you should buy a car that looks aggressive and get put some excitement in your life.

Those discounts are called marketing my friend, which every car company does. If it makes people go GM, so be it. They want people to get into their new cars in order to show them that they aren't the same company they used to be... I think you should go out and drive some new ones, your opinion just might change...

You're comparing that Chysler to those GM cars?
A Cadillac would be more comparable.

Impala's, Monte Carlo's, SS's and new Grand Prix's aren't that bad either.
Not to mention Corvette

Yup, those cars he mentioned wouldn't even be competing with that 300C.

And now the Impala/Monte SS's are getting the 3800 S/C to go with the SS name.. which should bring performance up to par with that class. I love the looks of the '04 Prixs the more I see them too...

1) The Alerso and Malibus share platforms, but the Alero is sleek and lacks stupid body cladding. Cleaner shape
2) I live the Sevilles, the CTS is growing on me (especially the CTSv)
3) As I stated above, I don't know enough about Saabs to care
4) Rental car fodder = poor resale value
5) My roommate last year worked at CarMax so I had the opportunity to check out MANY different kinds of cars with various amounts of miles on them. The GM car interiors were typically nut up to snuff after many miles compared to Japanese counterparts. That's not to say that CarMax didn't do their best to make them look pretty.
6) My Camry is just a car that I use for transportation. Wasn't really worried about the styling b/c it's inoffensive. Nothing ugly, nothing pretty. Just reliable, quality interior, and fuel efficient. My next car will have a bit more "style" injected :)

As for the cars you mentioned. The Impalas and Monte Carlos are butt ugly...especially the Monte Carlo. The new Grand Prix looks quite good. The Corvette is probably the best looking car at GM, although that ass is STILL huge.

Malibu's really don't have the body cladding that you're speaking of.
pics

The other N-body based car is the Grand Am, and you will find that the 2003 SE version looks VERY similar to the alero, and the GT version has the cladding, but it really isn't that bad and makes the car look more aggressive. The Grand Ams continue to sell well, so they must be doing something right...

Yep, rental fleets love those Grand Am's, Malibus, Impalas, and Ford Tauruses ;)

Anyway, enough about those subpar cars, more about the 300C :p

Sorry, not everyone might be able to afford the type of car that you have in mind. Just look at all the Grand Ams on the road.. yup those must all be rentals!

sounded like a comparison between that Chysler 300c and what you think is GM sh!t (which you later listed).

Every car company makes low priced cars. No they won't have the interior of a Bentley, but people can afford them and then in turn drive them. Some people just need transportation. Judging an auto make by its crappiest cars isn't fair.

As for saying a company sucks because its cars are ugly, I think that is a tad subjective. And by "a tad", I mean "completely". You may hate the Monte Carlo styling, but I think it is a good looking car and definately a step up from the 2-door lumina styling of past monte's.

The Impala SS will be close to 300C territory in pricing. The new new Grand Prix Spec model will be even closer in pricing. There IS no comparison there, no matter how sleek the new Grand Prix may look.

A 345HP/375lb-ft 5.7 liter V8 RWD Chrysler with a Mercedes tranny and suspension vs a 7 year-old GM FWD platform and a supercharged V6??

Puhlease!!! The only thing that GM has that comes close is the CTS and in base form it would be utterly r@ped by the 300C. The only CTS model that could touch the Hemi would be the $50,000 CTSv

You are comparing a concept car - something that you cannot buy, probably won't see identical production if it sees proctuion at all, and certainly probably won't stay on target with price estimates (did they state $30k in the article by the way, I don't see it) - to production cars, things that you can actually buy. There really is no comparison.

By the way, I'm not bashing this car, because I really like it... especially w/ the 5.7L Hemi, but I just don't think it is appropriate to compare a car that you cannot buy to one that you can.

i thought they were $37,000.

anyway, not everyone can afford a jetta interior. or likes prissy interiors enough to make the tradeoff from something else.

GM doesn't suck. It's cars in general do. GM's trucks and truck powertrains are the best in the business.

All I'm saying is that when other car companies are producing safer, more efficient, better quality vehicles on new platforms compared to what GM is shoveling at the same price point, I see no point in picking GM.

The Civic and Corolla have gotten new platforms TWICE since the current Cavalier chassis was around. Same goes for the Impala compared to the Camry/Accord. The Taurus has been sitting on the same old bones since '96. Camry got redone in '97 and again in 02. Accord for '98 and again in '03. IMHO, going with something just b/c it's cheap isn't my thing. I'd gladly spend a few grand more on a superior product.

Camry or Accord vs Impala LS or Taurus? Like I said, there's no comparison.

GM hired Bob Lutz for a reason...TO OVERHAUL THEIR CAR LINEUP.

Price estimate is in the USA Today link I posted towards the top. The 300C/N is replacing the 300M which is around $28,000 - $34,000.

Underneath the muscular sheet metal, the new sedan shares its basic platform with the popular mid-size Mazda6.

A number of other planned Ford products, including a new Lincoln also set for debut at the New York Auto Show this week, also will share the Mazda6/Futura platform.
good. that 6 is a good platform.

i'd like to see the duratec gain some displacemnt, though.

Well, it's making close to 240HP in Jaguar and Lincoln applications. But they do need to bump up the displacement to around 3.3 - 3.5 liters

One important thing I overlooked before was the HEMI will work with the 5 speed Mercedes tranny. Now they just need to dump the weak Mercedes engine out of the Crossfire and squeeze the HEMI in it :D.
