Over the summer, I have been working on recreating the old feel of the site for a web design course. If anyone wants to help me script it, I would be glad to buy a domain/hosting to get it going. PM me, thanks.

it has always been slow, at least for me. I don't understand why people use it.

QFT, Imageshack FTW.

You ungrateful bastards.

It's got ah heck all to do with the codebase, it's the server being hammered constantly, a lot of you seem to forget it's a completely free service, if you want to pay for a lightning fast server feel free to.

You're wasting your time.

I respect the work those running put into it, but it is too slow for my liking now.

I am sorry man. I just wanted to offer a simple alternative to your site (which I greatly appriacate and still use). My professor is an artist and wanted us to creat an artist site, and doing a new image hosting site came to mind. Didn't mean to step on any toes.

Many times the images time out.

Yeah, BBZZDD is utterly painful. Especially on dialup. 🙁

wtf? I'm using dialup (at 26.4k on a good day), and bbzzdd has always been acceptable for me... better than other gallery/pic sharing engines... and when I've been on broadband, it's always been quite snappy for me... the server is always getting hammered, so I'm sure that it's not the same speed that it would be if it had a server farm running it, but hey - it's a free service! Thank Dannyboy for what he's giving ATOT.

So is Imageshack. 😛

I just do the coding, Modeps provides the bandwidth and the server.

Something some of you should bear in mind in regards to the speed of the server slowing down over time, it's more to do with the size of the database increasing constantly, the site does have nearly 4,500 users now.

takes like 30 seconds before the images even begins to load. once it starts loading it's fast though 😕 must be the processing?

Ah, I didn't know that. 😉 (or actually, I may have read it somewhere, and have forgotten it 🙁 )

Out of curiosity, have you thought at all about implementing a dump function to delete users and content if it hasn't been accessed in X time (say... 365 days)? I think that would probably be a good idea... could potentially save a lot of space, decrease database size, etc.

Like I said, it's not the code, it's the server.

I'll talk to dwell about it, I don't particularly want to 'dump' users though.

It's just a suggestion. 😉 I've seen some sites do it... just a personal preference. 🙂

I'll code the feature in and leave it an option.

slow for me.
takes at least 4-5 seconds for the site to come up... sometimes more.

never fails, it's consistantly slow.

Once your on the site its fast, but if you click a link form the forums.. its pretty slow to load.

Would you rather I limited the number of simultaneous connections allowed to improve speed, or would you prefer to put up with it?

That's about all I can do.

i know how big databases can slow a site down

but it was faster with the old version

unless there was an onslaught of 2000 users the same day the site was upgraded?
