The question is, if I can make the site fast enough with the new version would that be acceptable, or just to hell with it go back to what worked for years.

whats with clicking on an additional screen to get to the full size pic?

The biggest complaint I've seen is having to click twice (or shift+click) to open any image. Why couldn't you add a link below each image for the details? That way if you want the details, you click the link below the pic, and click the pic directly to open it full size.

I don't care, but if you can make it faster that would be great.

BTW, thanks for making this available

The flickrness is cool, but if it costs too much in speed and clickyness then I'd rather see it go.

Oh, and can we have the RSS feed back please. The RSS bit was teh coolest feature of the old Pics. I didn't even have to load firefox to see what was going on.

Oh, and V3 has b0rked cookies - the PHPSession cookie has the wrong domain, so it won't get acted upon by some Http clients. It meant that I couldn't get my auto-uploader working. Never tried this with V2, but I'm hoping it's a simple bug. I would offer to fix it for you, but I don't know anything about PHP.

That fact that *I* have not used the site in months speaks volumes. The new front end is nice, but IMO not functional. No offense to DannyBoy, he did good work but in the long run performance and overall functionality suffered.

I will fix the RSS feed as well.

I stopped randomly browsing it because it just started to become frustrating with the speed issues and the extra clicking to view an image.

Despite it's "jazziness", I think its simplicity was the key to its original success.

The only thing I like about the new site is that if you browse the random gallery you will normally get at least 1 good lesbian pic in there. Other than that I rarely visit the site anymore. Roll back my man!

would be nice if you created a new thread where people can list pros and cons for the old and new version

that way you can improve on version 3

kinda like winamp, how version 3 sucked but had alot of neat ideas, then version 5 came out and wow.. everything 3 and 2 was :)

That's a setting you can turn off in your preferences. But most people don't know that. It should make you set that when you sign up and not set it one way as default because people don't know it can be changed.

The only thing I don't like is that originally with 3 if I was viewing one of the galleries (let's say Most Viewed 1 week) then when I clicked on an image, it would show me the image info on top and the gallery itself down below so if I wanted to view another one I could just click on a new image from the bottom. Then for some reason that went away so if I'm viewing a gallery, and then I pic an image, and then I vote on the image, I have to click back a few times to get back to the gallery instead of just scrolling down to view the next image.

I wish that would go back in. Other than that I think it's just fine.

EDIT:
Oh and one other thing. When I do the Shift-Click on an image to go straight to the large one, why does it force open a new window and not go into a new Tab like every other tlink in the world does in FF. Looks like something is overriding all my FF and Tab settings somehow...

EDIT2:
Also the one thing I don't like (and that causes all the slowdown) is if I view a gallery, then view an image, then go Back, it has to reload the entire page and all the pictures from the server instead of just going back and using the cached page. If that could be changed so I can click Refresh to reload them, that'd be a HUGE speed improvement.

Why don't you limit the maximum pic size? Aside from 3.0, the massive slowdown with bbzzdd has also coincided with many users starting to upload and link huge pic after huge pic. Nothing wastes bandwitdh like hundreds of users clicking on a 6MP blurry shot of junk.

There are occasions when I load full size pics when I think someone might be interested. Otherwise I reduce the resolution by half. This option is a main reason I use the site, and not CanonTalk.net or another.

The pic size is not really the problem. The problem is the software is hammering the database doing all the little bells and whistles. It's killing the back end.

In case you don't remember how simple things were:

http://pics.bbzzdd.com/classic/

Keep in mind that will even be slow because the system is getting hammered by 3.0.
