Pickups

I'm not very satisfied with the sound my of Fender single coil pickups that came with my affinity strat. Squier Affinity Strat
So, I want to put in EMG humbucking pickups. I went to EMG's site and found what I was looking for. EMG KH21
My question is, has anyone ever done anything like this? Is it difficult? Do you have any tips so that I don't screw up my guitar or anything like that?

I can't really afford a new guitar right now, so this is the only decnt alternative I could come up with for now.

yeah... i did it to my American Strat, but I'm not sure if its even worth it with a Squier. The pickups aren't necissarily the problem, squiers are made with inferior wood (plywood?) and can come out of tune halfway through a song. Plus, the body may not be routed correctly for humbuckers, meaning you have to do some woodworking along with soldering. I know the newer American Strats have the proper routing, but I would take off the pickguard and check with your Squier first.

You would probably be better off buying a Mexi Strat or pretty much anything but a Squier.

I wouldn't bother upgrading a squier. And if you really want a humbucking sound, I'd also suggest saving some money for an epi les paul, or some sort of S-S-H superstrat type of guitar (there's half a dozen or more good brands around).

Siva is quite right - every part of a squier needs upgrading if you want it to be a really 'good' guitar. So don't waste your money on pickups; you won't get the kind of results you want.

Yeah, go to a guitar store, try out some something new and see if it feels/sounds like what you want. You'd be much better off with a better axe than upgrading a crappy one that's still gonna suck.

Thanks, I was checking out Strats. Phew....I might as well go buy a new guitar and replace 'em with the EMGs I want. I might buy a ESP F100M or Ibanez SZ320. How difficult is it to replace the pickups?
