the ranger is definitly better than the suck10, which was designed by isuzu to begin with, i think. do like those z71s though, but almost every frat boy on the planet has one... not many have the 4 door 350.

A farmer friend told me that fords are easier to work on, but chevys are more reliable. He rebuilt enough of the electrical circuits (with only the wire in his trailer lights) in his ford after his brother "took a short cut" through a field.

I am biased to chevys. I think how long they last just depends on how you drive them.

My father has an '89 Ranger 2WD with over 200,000 miles on it. I am considering grabbing it for a 302 swap when he gets something else. The body is straight as hell. It looks like an old man's truck. It's white, and has a cap on it.

It could be the ultimate sleeper. Hmmm....

Chevy ain't on the map. Not to mention their Diesels is suck

Thats why for every 100K Fords and 80K Chevy's there is 20K Dodges sold huh??, also you don't know allot about diesels, Duramax is the new king of the hill, only 20lbs on the powerstroke but 70HP over it and the Cummins, PLEASE get a real diesel dodge. And I know I'll get Flak over that one cause they are so set on their Straight 6's, but sorry V-8 is the way to go.

You don't know squat about diesels if you think Ford has the best diesel. The Cummins is the best by far and I don't care if the Ford has slightly more power or not. Ford has had problems with their diesels on and off for quite some time. Yes, the latest version is pretty good, but I still don't fully trust them.

The Dodge is basically a smaller version of a semi engine. Cummins knows what they are doing. Look at the Cummins in Dodge trucks and the engine design overall. That's a monster, and it was built to last.
Did you know that the Dodge has about 2X the main bearing surface area as the Ford? Which engine do you think will last longer?

Back when Dodge first put the Cummins in pickups, I know a big farm that bought about 4 trucks, all with the 5 speed. The trucks were still running strong after 500,000 miles, and they weren't easy miles. They were used to pull trailers, stuck tractors, hauling heavy stuff, etc. They were used and abused, but it didn't matter.

the Ford 150 is a piece of sh*t. If you go for a Ford get a F250 or above. My favorite truck now is a 1996 Dodge 2500 4x4. No problems 100K+ miles and haven't had any major problems, just a broken ac knob and a door switch. My ol Ford F150 was a 1996 and the computer died and the tranny blew with 3 months. POS, sold it and got my Dodge.

I haven't seen one of the new GM diesels in action, but at this point for a diesel setup Dodge has it, however GM has the gas engine setup down solid.

depends on what you want to do. chevy is ok if you're just going to drive around. ford is best for heavy hauling and pulling (i live in a rural area and fords are used by a lot of farmers). dodge is best if you like to pay for a lot of repairs. i have a 2000 ford F250 superduty (V10, crew cab, 4WD), and a 98 ford ranger extended cab.

Dodge RAM, least amount of money spent on fleet maintence than any other truck, thats why so many business are swithing to buy, or continuing to buy, RAM fleets.

Umm.... not quite. Duramax has just been introduced and GM has a really bad track record for first year introductions. Give that new diesel a good 2 years for them to work out the bugs. On the plus side using the Allison auto was a streak of genius, rare for GM.

V-8 diesels will never be the way to go. Just look at all the real diesel makers. Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Caterpiller and Mercedes. All have built v-8's over the years but have settled on the inline 6 for their current lineup. Cat is getting 600hp and 2050lbs/ft of torque out of their inline 6. The 6 is far more reliable over the long term with less maintenance needed and easier rebuilds.

NFS4 thanks for the link on the Dodge. I may just wait and order a new one with the cummins.
