Pickup orders from restaurants. Do you leave a tip??

Isn't that the whole reason for picking up instead of delivery? So you don't have to leave a tip?

If they put all the extras in there with out asking, and it's ready to go when I get there or shortly thereafter, you bet.
going way off topic here (how bad can that be in a forum called off-topic, for gods sake ...!) but I have a deep distaste for this whole tipping culture
I have never understood how America - the land of equality - has spawned and sustains this inhuman practice ... people who apparently have salaried jobs have to stick their hands out to every idiot who walks in and depend on their goodness/habit/current mood/weather to determine what they get paid ??? what's worse is it does not even apparently depend on the service quality any more. you almost have to give them 15%. if its that standard why not stick it on the price list ? that way no one is begging for a hand-out and the customer knows what he is paying when he walks in
and don't give me trash about how it is supposed to drive better service and all that crap. There's no logic for why you tip the cabbie but not the bus driver, who in my opinion works a lot harder and gets no thanks at all. Why give a dollar to the doorman for holding the door ? He's entirely useless to me. I've got hands and I open doors just as well. How many people tip the postman for walking thru the rain to bring you your junk mail ????

Salaried jobs? They make like $2.30 an hour because their primary source of income is wages from tips. No one is forcing anyone to pay 15% of the tip - if you want to, that's fine. GO to restaurant X or Bar X on a frequent occassion. Tip nothing or little. See how they treat you like crap, then tell us how service quality isn't affected. If you go once in a blue moon or have different waiters each time then yes, you won't notice the difference, but if you had the same guy/girl you would.
My OLDer post on this very subject w/ a poll that's still viewable. I'm not saying 'repost' just pointing it out as it may be helpful.
hey don't complain to me about what they make .... you've got the logic backwards my friend. They get paid that low because the restaurants know they will pick up tips ... its 'factored' in. the restaurants happily pass on their cost to the customers and we pick it up cause otherwise the poor service staff won't make any money....!

and dont tell me why it cannot be done. visit Switzerland. no tips. at all ! not in hotels, not in cabs. they include a service charge in the price. every 14.99 dish includes a 7% service charge. that way I know what I will pay before i order, and no - the service does not suck. Tipping has become something where it is considered compulsory...I think it should be something where you give a tip if you are happy with the service....this seems logical...and you should give what you feel.
Nowadays in many restaurants (although this seems more prevalent in the us than in the uk and elsewhere) you feel obliged to give a certain % automatically on top of the bill.
Perhaps every single service should now carry a tip!!, you tip your mechanic, tip your postman, tip shopkeepers...etc etc....
On the topic at hand...I would say that doesn't warrant a tip really.
