FWIW... E400 arrived today and I got it setup just in time for MNF. Setup was a breeze. Took me 30 minutes to uninstall the 1609 and get this one setup (except the wired connection) . So far I love it. Was able to toss all the analog & TOSLink audio cables and the sound is superb. Audessy was a breeze compared to the 1609. I love the GUI and how it overlays video sources. I also tried 2 blu rays and was impressed with sound.

So far i have just the 54" panny plasma, Panny BD, and roku HD connected. Will be adding more devices later and I cant wait to try pandora on it.

Oh and the unexpected win is that i havent had to repogram my universal remote yet. Its coming as I add devices, but all the old 1609 settings work for the E400 too.

Back to MNF. Later.

Nice.

good to hear another positive review.

I think i'm going to go up a model on the AVR I can now get the denon X2000 model for only alittle bit more.

I'm not planning on buying until just after Christmas. I want to thank everyone for posting in my thread so far loving the suggestions and different ideas keep it coming folks.

One more thing... I enabled dynamic compression (medium) . Opinions on that?

do you mean dolby dynamic range control, or audyssey dynamic volume. not sure about the e400, but some denon receivers have both.
You should definitely be using audyssey's version. it has three modes - day, evening, and midnight, with progressively more compression.

keep audyssey dynamic EQ enabled as well.

I'm not sure what you went with for speakers, but I saw someone mention Polk earlier. Polk likes to refresh their Monitor line ever so often, which is mostly just cosmetic changes. I believe they're actually on the Monitor x5 nomenclature now. In other words, instead of Monitor 70 or Monitor Series II 70, it's now the Monitor 75. The best thing to do is wait until Newegg has a sale on these as they're considerably cheaper (~$150-200 each) compared to the normal price.

I have the 3313ci and just bought my first smart TV. Set up on the Denon was very easy but the TV did something to take over the volume control on the avr. I have to use the TV remote (when using tv with doubles as my monitor) and sometimes it controls only the tv volume and sometimes it controls the avr. Haven't figured out why yet.

HDMI-CEC is a nice feature, but it's very, very dependent on how the manufacturers implement it. For example, it's terrible on my LG TV, but it work fairly well on my Vizio. The only way my Vizio TV would control the AVR was if I enabled volume control for the AVR. It doesn't really affect anything as I can still use my Denon AVR's remote and I have TV sound disabled anyway. It does give me one nice advantage though. My 2112ci doesn't support GUI overlay while playing 3D content (only available in the 2312 and above). So, before my Vizio took control of the AVR, I wouldn't get a volume bar in 3D content, but now I do.

The X2000 can be had for $448.6 plus $4.99 shipping if you pricematch Memory Express with Gibbys:

But today's the last day.

The x2000 and the e400 are nearly identical. If you really want the few extra features of the x2000 go for it... just not sure it is worth the price premium. I paid $299 for mine, though it was a factory refurb (1 yr warranty instead of 2)

In canada I can get the E400 for $449 currently

And the X2000 for $549. So the difference in price is only $100 the thing that had me looking one model up is the warrantly the E400 has a 2yr and the X2000 3yr.

If you look at the feature list between the two its not that big surprisingly.

i'm looking for more information on this difference.

XT has more control points so it can provide a more detailed measurement but only on the satellites. The subwoofer calibration on both systems is the same. If you have a receiver though with MultiEQ as well as Dynamic EQ the difference between XT is not that big anymore. It's an ongoing debate on which is better but people will agree that the XT premium is not worth hundreds of dollars when you got MultiEQ and Dynamic EQ.
