Unit wise I'm mostly done with my masters in statistics. I'm picking up some other courses. I'm taking two statistics courses this semester to complete the degree (bayesian and survival) but i want to take a third course so I'm not wasting time.

options are information theory, advanced numeric optimization, scientific database techniques, or combinatorics. anyone with a similar background care to weigh in?

Another option that I'm looking at is real analysis.

i will have a research assistantship when i get back to the school, so that's basically a job.

How was DC?

If you can fit it, add a sports or activity class that you are interested in and don't have much experience in. Maybe you can learn to scuba or sail or something. Do it while it's cheap because you've already paid for a school term, and not swamped with coursework/work.

Rogue is always good because of the skill variety.
Fighter is nice because its hard to mess up, and since you are asking I assume you dont know enough to use something more complicated like a wizard.

Cleric may be a bit beyond you if yur starting out, but the versatility and power is kinda nice, especially with the right spheres.

scuba certified, got sailing merit badge in scouts :p I'd i had the time for an interest class i would rather use that time for something more productive.

dc remains hot and muggy. in here for another 3 weeks. i still haven't visited the west part of the mall.>_<

I haven't taken most of those courses, but from the wiki articles, I would consider these:

advanced numeric optimization
information theory

These two seem to have more realworld usefulness. However, if you are well learned in linear algebra and have already taken some form of numerical methods course, I would go for information theory. It's not hard to pick up numerical methods in your own time if you have some sort of foundation.

the only real trouble I have with information theory is it's a 1-day a week class, and I've had the professor before and he doesn't explain things very well or go into much depth.

To be honest, I would do this. I took a handbuilt ceramics course, nothing at all to do with my major, and I now how a love for pottery (as well as plenty of stuff I made lying around the house). I never would have known without taking the class.

Grad school's so nice. No need to fight hundreds of eager undergrads that are trying to take your spot in classes.
