Being close to Micro Center has certainly bad side effects on my spending habit. Received an e-mail about E8400 for $189, and this morning I went out to get a coffee and on the way back I took a slightly different route back to my house.. Of course with an E8400.. :D

The trouble is, that I don't have any board to test it on other than Bad Axe 2. My 680i is en route to EVGA for the Step-Up to 780i, and I won't touch my main rig (DFI P965-S) for such purposes.

That leaves me the Bad Axe 2 that I could snag back from someone close to me. I don't know what to do? I mean, I wouldn't worry about them not working together, but I would hate to see them killing each other..

congrats, i don't think you'll kill the cpu by trying it in a board that doesn't natively support it. Wish i had a micro center nearby. btw whats the max FSB on a 780i?

Max FSB on 780i: No clue. My max FSB on 680i was 480FSB with an E6400.
Stock VID: No clue. Haven't even opened the package yet. The box says 1.225v max.

Thanks for the tip. Seems like that doesn't work for me. I change it to disabled and when i save and reboot it goes back to enabled. Not sure whats the deal with this.

it wont run on the badaxe 2. because the badaxe 2 doesnt technically supports 1333 bus. also the 975x chipset doesnt support 45nm i'm pretty sure. the 965 would if you had the right bious since its a newer design supposedly

I don't think I will try it on tonight. Getting late and I'd rather watch some TVs.. (lame, I know. :p )

hans007: Can't say for sure but BadAxe 2 does support 1333 bus, I think. Actually it was one of the first few boards that had the option to choose straps. (whether it works as intended is a different story) With E2140 installed, the BIOS gives whoopping 4 strap choices - 133, 200, 266, 333.

Talking slightly off-topic, BadAxe 2 is really a great board, I'm reminded. Not many boards have given me such a stable feel outside some of the DFI's offerings. I built a rig with this board for someone else like a year ago, and everything works now as it did back then. Overclocks great, performance is great, and all the advertised features work without a hitch. The most impressive thing with this board for me is that it handles every single power-saving tasks under heavy overclocking. C1E/EIST/Stand-by/Sleep/Hybernation all work wonderfully with both XP32 and Vista64.

Maybe I will try it tomorrow. :p

Is there any report of success? Bad Axe 2 + E8400, that is. I have an E8400 with its factory-seal intact sitting. Ugh.

I read somewhere that a badaxe2 was the first platform they showed a 45nm wolfdale on at IDF last year. It had some hardware modifications and an engineering bios though. I dunno maybe check intel mobo website for support?

I thought VID is a fixed value? Two seemingly identical chips can have different VID. Sometimes it means a very different thermal characteristics, and other times it means really nothing. Not the greatest measure for OC potential but I guess it's better than nothing. (to have something indicative)

Anyone knows if this board is good overclocker?

I'm still awaiting 780i and I have no intention to buy another full-sized mobo. And I'd like to hear if anyone has experience with NewEgg's Open-Box items.
