I picked up a second generation Series 1 watch this morning at Target - I had been contemplating getting a Series 2 for awhile but as you may have seen on Slickdeals this morning, Target had a pricing issue and honored the error so I paid $160 for a 42 mm version.

So, what are some cool apps to use on the watch? How do you guys use them? Do you guys recommend a specific screen protector or case?

NO ONE has an Apple Watch and can make recommendations? I bought the Spigen case for it but am still looking for suggestions.

Honestly, I don't really use apps on my watch. The more basic smart features are all I really want in a watch. I also don't use a case, but since you have the aluminum and glass model, you might want a screen protector. I had an original sport that I ended up replacing with a stainless steel model because I had little scratches all over the screen. The sapphire screen on the steel model is much more resilient.

Don't use a case or screen protector here -- I just baby mine.

As for apps? Transit is my favorite. It can be a lifesaver to see when the bus/train is coming without having to fish your phone out of your pocket. I'm also a fan of checking Twitter mentions on Tweetbot and indulging in my vanity by looking at Instagram activity.

Honestly, a lot of the value for third-party apps comes more from notifications. There may not be native Facebook Messenger or Hangouts apps, but you can still reply to those messages from your wrist. More than a little handy.

I use it exactly as it was designed: An extension of my iPhone - Review mail and text previews, calendar alerts and fitness tracking on my wrist instead of looking at my phone.

No case or screen protector, either.

Yes - why wouldn't you? I wasn't sure how it would hold up so I got a case for it.
I don't use a watch case. Never have and never will. But then again, my watch is made out of 904L steel and a thick chunk of sapphire.

I took mine out of the case and am experimenting with different bands, though I still have a screen protector on it. I think from my use so far, I can justify upgrading once the next series is released. I was skeptical of how much I'd use it, but I really enjoy it and kind of wish I'd gone with my original plan to get a Series 2.
