Quick question for you: Why do you still have the Sony features sticker on the side? Just curious.

Like Ornery said, stickers are cool 🙂
I left it there because of the same reason.

There is no WB issue. I just feel those give me the best neutral color in any light.

Ah, ok -- I thought I read about some issue with it in one of the online reviews.

I don't have enough space in our current house to save everything, but the resale thing makes sense. I probably won't be selling mine anytime in the near future. Other priorities are going to be taking my money (see .sig!).

hehehe i still have all the stickers, box, packaging material, and even the original cable ties as well. improves the resale value and looks brand new, even though i've taken only 2000 pics (as opposed to ornery's 14k).

I don't really think that was a macro. Macro range is from .8" - 19.7". You had the focal length at 20mm, so you were probably close to that 20" limit. I usually am at full wide for macros (9.7mm), and as close as possible to the subject. Otherwise, you can just use the zoom in normal mode for a shot like that. This is probably why autofocus wasn't working. I'll be darned if I can focus using the LCD or EVF. I'm TOTALLY dependent on autofocus.

I have a hard time focusing using manual as well. I've tried it several times when the autofocus was screwing up (trying to get a spider in a web is nearly impossible!), and each time it was messed up. That said, I've only had trouble with autofocus on very few occasions. I even took a snapshot of a couple cranes in flight, and the autofocus got them instead of the light poles also in the picture.

I just got my quick charger and battery in today. I topped off the Sony battery and checked to see how much time I had remaining on the battery. It gave me 227 minutes. I topped off the generic battery that I received, and it shows 260 mins. I think I'll just use that one from now on.

I also got in my 512MB Sandisk Memory Stick Pro card in and I got a Samsonite camera bag from Target so I'm all set 😀

I've read too many stories about generic cellphone batteries exploding that I won't trust anything but name brand. That said, I got my second battery on clearance for about half price. 🙂

I've got a generic battery in my current cell phone (and had one in my previous cell phone). I've also used generics in two different laptops. Never had a problem

Suit yourself, I can't wait for the ":| WTF, camera's dead after 2 months, Sony refusing to honor warranty" thread 😀 They have all the bases covered - low quality products, high prices, ethics that make the mafia look like a convent.

see, i knew you couldn't stop gadget-whoring

'i'm going to keep my A95 for a while' pffft!

What a fvcktard:
  • My F707 purchased in mid 1992, has 14,000 images under its belt, with nye a glitch... EVER.
  • CCD-V101 lasted from 1991-1998 when it got caught in the rain & fvcked up.
  • TRV-85 has shot at least 20 two hour tapes since 01-21-99, and played all of them back several times without a hitch... EVER!
  • SL-HF900 was purchased on 07-05-85 and still works PERFECTLY today!
  • KV13TR27 TV purchased on 06-28-93 is still working PERFECTLY!
  • KV-36FS12 purchased 06-30-01 still PERFECT!
  • Clock radio(s) purchased in the '80's, still wakes me every day.
  • Discman purchased several years ago, still works fine.
  • Son's DSC-V1 purchased on 01-21-04 worked perfectly from dau one, and still does...
Since Brandon purchased that from Sears, he could buy a Protection Agreement for 20% of the purchase price, and if it's never used, "trade up" to the DSC-F828 at the end of the agreement period. Of course, it WILL break according to you, so it will be money well spent...

Nice camera NFS4.

Er...Ornery you sure you had your F707 in mid 1992?! 😛 2002? But I'm sure it came out earlier then that right?

I like my Sony stuff. It all works good and to what I expect. Great build quality in the stuff I have.

Heh, not the first time you've used anecdotal information to support an absurd claim... I seem to recall a multipage flamefest with you bashing Newegg and everyone else trying to calmly tell you that one miscue doesn't make them a bad company... Oh and lest I forget, that was excellent use of the ad-hom attack - that one always wins for sure. I can just picture you telling your CS team "lolololroflolol i pwnt sum d00d i kaled him a fcuktard roflolololol" as mom yells that it's bedtime for the third time tonight

Ah, more namecalling, this is great - how old are you, about 12?

Your post implies that a few experiences is a large enough sample to judge something on, which simply isn't true.

At any rate, as I said, suit yourself - some people insist on learning the hard way. I'm not going to argue any more with a child.

Maybe I missed something, but where are you getting this "Sony is crap" stuff from?😕

A few bad experiences of my own and quite a few more of friends & family prompted me to search around a bit. It was surprising to see how common it is for a Sony product to break early, often shortly after the warranty ends. While you can buy extended plans (indeed, the kids working at BB/CC/CompUSA will fight to the death over the chance to sell you one), you're already paying more for the Sony name in the first place. I've also experienced their ethics firsthand many times as a former Everquest nerd 😱 I've posted about it before, will dredge it up if you want. Basically, it was theft - and in a few forms at that... among other lesser ethical blunders.

Well the stuff I get in the UK has all worked brilliantly.

The Sony stuff I get is better then what else is out there for the same products. They were all rated well.

The various Sony tv's we have had or still have are great.

All companies have some iffy products. I've had 2 duff Western Digital HD die on me 🙁 and another one of them also die. BUT in my opinion they are a good company. 3yr warrenty against the other guys

I've had a 707 and currently a 717 (for $430 from Circuit City last year.... hot deals forum). Both are GREAT cams and take fantastic photos.

Beware of aftermarket batteries with the 717, some will show "not info-lithium" on the LCD and the cam with just shutdown until you put in a true Sony one... this may have been overcome with some of the newer aftermarkets.

For good examples and discussions about the Sony cams, you might want to try here at the Sony Talk forum.

I went to the Sony Talk forums before buying the battery. They recommended the seller I bought from. And that generic battery works just fine...even moreso than the Sony battery that came with it.
