The Mafia 2 demo was freaking awesome, but I think it's still over $40 everywhere, so I'll probably wait on it for a bit longer. Thanks for the reminder though.

I've never understood the attraction of sandbox games like FO3. Sure, you have freedom, but there is so much freedom that the game is almost work. If a game is going to keep me hooked, there needs to be some interesting plot developments. Side quests may be kinda neat, but they end every hour. When I finished FO3 I literally said: "That's it?". Credits roll.

Sooooo, yeah, ME.

I played Fallout 3, then tried playing ME2, and couldn't get into it. Loved ME1, but played it so long ago.

Bioshock 2 is also a very good game. There were parts of the story development that explain the little sisters that gave me goosebumps.

I will speak for Bioshock 2. :)

I have finished it several times as well as the first Bioshock. And as good as the first one was, I think Bioshock 2 was even better. Better atmosphere as well. Was fun walking around outside of Rapture underwater.

I for one thought it had a great story as well. I played Fallout 3 as well. Probably half way through. And just could not get into it at all.

I have Mass Effect, But have not loaded it up yet.

So regardless of which game you pick, MAKE SURE you do pick up Bioshock 2. You don't want to miss it. :)

Here is how I see it. Mass Effect is a great game (I liked it better than ME2) and it is relatively short in comparison to games like Fallout 3. So play that and enjoy it. After that, I would skip the original Fallout 3 and get New Vegas with all the patches that will probably be out at that time.

I don't really see any reason to play both FO3 and FO3: New Vegas, the games are very similar, and New Vegas does it better in nearly every way.

Good stuff guys, thanks. That Bioshock 2 post is helpful; I do want to play that at some point.

So you don't need to play regular Fallout 3 before New Vegas for story or continuity? I guess that's because of the openness of the game. :hmm:

Skip Fallout 3 (or play it later). Fallout New Vegas in my mind is eons better in many ways.

Agreed, but not only because I think NV is better. I don't honestly believe someone can play FO3 and then FO3:NV, it would simply be too much of the same game, you'd be playing those 2 for months. It would be like playing Morrowind and Oblivion back to back, terrible idea and almost guaranteed burn out. So because of that, it makes sense to play NV now and if you like it and have time later, then play original FO:3 afterwards. Plus, you may finish NV (depending on how fast or slow you are) only to be greeted by something else: an expansion, FO4, Elder Scrolls 5, and want to play that instead of FO3. To do them chronologically could possibly leave you in a constant state of playing catch up.

You should be able to get Mass Effect for a few dollars now. I rarely play games completely through and I finished ME and ME2 back to back..

Got ME on sale and have spent a few hours and I'm liking it a lot. Reminds me of kotor. Will definitely get ME2 if I see it on sale on steam or D2D over the holidays.

FO3 is great, but the world is a little too large, and you might get bored of it if you're the type that wants to do all the sidequests and explore everywhere before finishing the main quest. It's taking me forever to get through New Vegas too, but I think the atmosphere is worth it. I fscking love post-Apocalyptica.

It's helpful to play FO3, so you're more used to the NV interface and gameplay (especially if you're like me and hadn't played Oblivion before), but absolutely not necessary. Actually, the two games aren't really related at all. It might help to read some background info regarding the setting, but not important. I utilize the Steam overlay web browser to read fallout-wiki when I want to know more.

Fallout 3. You can get through the game quickly if you ignore side quests, or take your time and explore and get far more play time out of it than most games.

Fallout 3 is also the clear choice because of mods and mod tools.

Sure you could ignore the side quests, but whats the point of buying a giant open world game with hours and hours of play, and just sticking with that one little part.

When I played through FO3 I completed all the DLC and probably 50% of the side quests before even starting the main quest.
