C:\Documents and Settings\*accountname*\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

is the directory where mine is in. I'm using Windows XP.

we got calls from this one campus book store that one of their computers will not connect to the network .... me and my group tried everything over the phone ....even replaced the computer ( guessing the on-board nic was bad ) .... so today I drive over to the location to find out that instead of using the cat5 cable the guy had cramed a phone line in the nic and held in place by tape :(

no need for the icon, whatever you are doing push (windows key) + D and it will show desktop.

I've had to create a shortcut for the show desktop quick launch so that I could email it to a couple coworkers... of course thats not why this person did that but its really easy to accidently drag that icon off the quick launch bar...

Click Start, Run, and type Notepad. Type the following contents into the document.

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the file as "ShowDesktop.SCF" [beware of double-extensions. Always use double-quotes]
Drag the file to the QuickLaunch bar.

EDIT: Damn, Beaten

I've actually seen it alot, people just hold down the left click a little to long .

of course they are too stupid to remove it then

What if you want a quick way to unhide everything...then it'd be useful!

I did that once. It was surprisingly hard to move it back. With Windose key + D I may not use again, though.

I don't understand what the big problem is. They probably just moved the shortcut from the quicklaunch bar by mistake.
