I hope photography isn't your dayjob. Erosion caused the soil go down, exposing the roots 😛

lol is the pic really that bad?

No it's decent, I was implying that photographers usually take more interesting pictures than trees with the roots exposed 😉

Good picture, but sort of random photography style. Try to get a unique angle of the tree...like from the roots up or something.

Hey, we all can't be the Maxim photographer that shot Carmen Electra. I like his pic. It is well...rooted in the fundamentals of basic quality photography.

Allthough I have no idea what those basic things are, I'm sure that his pic qualifies...*approved*

Well, the pic is certainly more well-rooted than the tree. 🙂

the pic has too much going on in the background. Sometimes simplicity can work wonder and don't forget the rule of third. Makes things a whole lot interesting.

Third? Who's on first?

Heh, I think I'm funny, tonight. 😉

Now that you mention it; I agree. The tree should be the center of the attention with not much else visible in the frame. you're correct.

Still a cool pic though.

Makes me think of Ansel Adams for some reason...it would be cool in B&W.

Yup, the "rule of thirds", basically it's just that you shouldn't ever split a picture right down the middle. For example, if you're taking a picture of the horizon, then the picture should be 1/3 earth and 2/3 sky or vice versa, but it should not be 1/2 and 1/2. Also, you're generally not supposed to center the object.

One of my favourite photographs. I took it at an overlook near my home in Ohio with a Contax 139 Quartz and a 55mm Zeiss lens.
