I got a new Maxtor 250gb 7200rpm 8mb cache for $130 no rebate at Microcenter.
New, Retail box, sealed.
Well, It is my main drive now, and I have noticed that it makes that "grinding sound" when it uses the hard drive. Old computers used to do this a lot, but I haven't noticed it for a while with my other drives.
For example, when I click on the Start button, then Programs, then Accessories, then whatever, going through those menus, each time it tried to open the next folder (in the menu), it pauses for a second and "grinds". It's like the seek time for this thing is huge. It's not just the Start Menu... its all hard drive activity, like browsing through Explorer and all that too.
THe noise doesn't bother me, because I work with older computers, and some of their "grinding" sound is loud as hell and they do it all the time.
Here is a pic of my HDDTach.
Is that slow? Normal?
THANKS!
