I went down there to visit a friend for the weekend. We went around town taking pictures, and the one linked below tops all the other pictures I took.

Enjoy.

The fact that it looks like something out of National Geographic or something along that line.

It is funny to see, but it is so sad at the same time.

I mean look at it, two children in a plastic car (probably 15+ year old car) with a flat tire. And to top it off, they are trapped behind barbed wire with garbage all around in the sweltering sun.

I have pictures similar to that from when I was a kid and would visit my Mom's family in Hazard, Kentucky.

My mom is 62, she didn't have running water or electricity til she was in her 20's... there are many regions of America that are just as desperate...
Which is not to detract from the meaningfulness of your photo... just, I wanted to add a bit of perspective...

I can actually dream up several jokes about this....but even I cant go as far as to ridicule the less fortunate.

Well, maybe later.

Hey! You got the rest up any place?

Ah...Hermosillo. The food down there is just incredible. Sonora Steakhouse....mmmmm. And, the Best Western (just down from the Fiesta Americana) had the best damn chimichanga I've had in my entire life!

But, yeah, there are some desolate areas. We passed quite a few homes with no roofs and partial walls. Then again, they get about 2" of rain/year.

How was the lake level?

Oh, and the Nuevo Hermosillo (on the way to the Ford Plant) looked like those mini-warehouse storage unit places where people had setup homes.

I don't have the rest of the pics up anywhere yet. The food was awesome though, and the girls were even better!

The lake was totally empty, they currently are shutting the water off to 1/2 the city on rotation. Awesome weather though, 100 degrees and sunny. 0 humidity so it didn't feel too hot at all in the shade.

Damn....water's gone? Wow.

I remember a hurricane was going up off the coast of Baja one time I was down there. We got about an hour of rain and some winds out of it, that's all. The rest of the time down there it was like having a blow dryer blowing in your face. And that was by 10am!

And, yeah, the women! There was a bar down the road from the Fiesta Americana called Freedom. That place was HOPPIN' on Thursday nights and the women....DAY-UM!!!
