So I was bored today and I decided to drive around.

I passed a pet shop and decided to stroll around inside. That is when I saw this spider. He was only $20, so I figured what the hell.

Now he is sitting in my room and I am wondering why the hell I bought him.

Oh well.

Here is the beast.

BTW, yes, that cool looking rock formation is a chuck of concrete I found in the yard.

The pet shop guy said he eats crickets and baby mice... I think he is going to be limitted to crickets as long as he's under my roof :)

I've got a tarantula, they're cool pets.

Tips? Ideas? Info?

Find out the specific care requirements for your breed. I can't tell exactly what it is from your picture. Most spiders sold as pets are fairly easy to take care of, very few pet shops will stock the really agressive or difficult varieties. Generally as long as tarantulas are warm, well fed and have a cozy hiding place so they feel secure they're almost idiot-proof.

Oh, and make sure the enclosure is secure. Spiders are pretty good escape artists. They can get out of places where it seems impossible.

I suggest letting it loose and singing "Born Free" at the same time. That's what I would do, lol.

LOL!!!!! I wonder if I could soak a cricket in an Ambien/Water solution and feed it to him. He might wander into his water dish and fall asleep!

HAHAHA

Will those things *ever* bite you? I have seen people holding them and all but is it pretty easy to piss one off enough for it to pounce?

most spiders dont bite humans....we too big......usually people are bitten when the spider is hidden and can only see part of what its about to bite moving and it takes it for a mammal or other creature more its own size (ie your toes when your lying in bed asleep and its crawled under the duvet...heh)

however if u piss one off enough and its on bare warm flesh it might still give you a nip...

spider bites aint exactly painful tho, can get a little itchy, or if its poisonous and still intact it might make ya feel a bit faint, or bits swell up, or worst case u die...lol
if u a strong healthy adult tho and u not allergic to the bite, it would take the most poisonous spiders to actually kill you, mebbe not even a dozen exist with that potent a venom....if u old or too young or weak in some way then u fooked...lol

Depends on the species and the personality. Some species are very docile and can be handled safely almost 100% of the time. Some are extremely aggressive and will bite anyone at any time if given the slightest opening. They can't be handled at any time even by experts. Some others will be mostly harmless, but might bite if handled badly or at the wrong time. Spiders are usually cranky around molting time or when hungry. If in doubt, it's best not to handle them at all, they're pretty fragile and cen be hurt of killed if mishandled or dropped.

Spoken like a person that's never been bitten by a large tarantula. A tarantula bite isn't an ordinary spider bite. Tarantulas have huge fangs and hit hard. Their bites can be very painful, even moreso if you're allergic to the venom. No tarantulas are truly dangerous to humans though. It'll hurt, burn, swell or itch, but not kill. Best to avoid being bitten in the first place.
