it's COUNTERSTRIKE...

counterstrike isnt going to last...in 100 years, people will not be playing this PC game

in for hundreds of years & in another 100 yrs, people will still be learning piano & the best will still be respected.

Most people have heard of Mozart & Beethoven...who can you name that's a "great CS player?"

That's not really a fair comparison. Mozart and Beethoven were creators (composers) and performers; in fact, they were, and still mostly remain, the epitome of both. Even the greatest gamer of all time is still merely a performer, so we'd have to compare them to Menuhin, Perlman, Gould, Paganini, etc. etc.

The closest comparison would be to someone like John Carmack, for never have I known of any gaming intellect so capable of singular creation and performance. But even that comparison falls short...

Or, "Most people have heard of Mozart & Beethoven...who can you name that's a 'great developer'"

😉

I'm sure we can all name quite a few 😉

After reading about half the thread, I've come to the conclusion that the comparison sucks, but I'm glad it was brought to my attention nonetheless.

Any thread in ATOT that brings something to your attention, and rightly so, is a good thread imo.

Haha, a top piano player will draw the cream of society for top dollar at the finest musical halls to watch him play. He will be lauded for superb musicianship. congratulated by his peers for mastering art at the highest level. He's in the pantheon of elite artists, recognized and adored all over the world.

Now a CS player, if he can draw more than 2 people to his basement...😉

But, hey, I did get your point about motor skillz.

I also want to point out the CS is a skill enjoyed by the general public. The demographic that enjoys piano consists of piano players, a few fans, and Michelle Branch.

Proof

And I also want to point out that as impressive as an Arcaic skill like piano may be, it's simply not practiced widely enough for me to put it on the same level as CS. CS = insane competition.

CS is a skill enjoyed by the general public? I've never met a person that didn't play CS that gave a rat's ass how good anyone was at it. EVER.

A good CS player... $10k in prize money at a tourney, a 45 second spot on G4/TechTV. Nobody cares except you and your buddies.
A good piano player... Orchestral. Any of a dozen varieties of metal. Easy listening. Jazz. That wierdass piano-only music. Virtually EVERY genre of music has some kind of need for piano skillz. Plus private entertainment. A lifetime of enjoyment by millions.

a person who puts as much effort in to CS as grandmasters put in to piano should be able to play you blindfolded and still win.

OP has no idea about the amount of work that goes in to piano.

The thing is, CS players will play for 36 hours straight. That's lot of repetition and practice. IF someone were to play the piano for 36 hours straight, I'd gather they would become a great piano player in a shorter amount of time.

Piano player is more impressive because yhere is more muscle control/movement/hand eye coordination. in CS you're moving your eyes, and you're moving one hand around in a 5 inch square, and the other hand is stationary, with only 3 fngers being used most of the time, and they are usually in a stationary place.

Piano player is moving their hands all over the place, as well as using their feet.

Which person impresses you more? A great piano player or a top CS player?

I'm more impressed with a top CS player and I'll give you my reasoning.

Which requires compensation for opponents? CS
Which takes more minute muscle control? Push
Which requires more dedication? Push
Which requires more timing? Piano (CS is very close though)
Which has more immature kids? Push (you should meet some of the kids learning piano)
Which requires longer training? Piano/push (as FPS hasn't been around long)
Which has more competitors trying to be the best? CS
Which does Amp enjoy more? CS

Over all I give the edge to CS. In the 21st century I think it's time we stop giving our respect only to people who have traditional skills and start publically giving great CS players the props they deserve.

-Amp

Do you live in your room? Literaly LIVE there? As in you don't leave. It takes a lifetime of dedication to become the best piano player there is. A LIFETIME. Not 6 years or so, 30+. WTF are you smoking? Pass it down this way why dont ya.

LMFAO stfu now...

you have no idea about the dedication and natural ability and style needed to play to play the piano...while sre CS needs style and expeirence its nothing like the piano...

thats like saying...Hey I can Own people in Madden 2005 so now I can probably be a NFL player

How long does it take someone to become an "master" at CS? A year or two at most? Much less time, effort and dedication than if you want to compete here.

Piano. You don't "impress" anyone with online gaming skillz. You'll realize this when you begin to interact with women.

I dunno... most women I meet like guys that are good with their hands...

Being able to hit WSAD and move your wrist a fraction of an inch and push two buttons doesn't equate to "good with their hands". The whole "nerds are good with their hands" thing comes from our OTHER nerdly occupations - computer hardware, mostly.

Piano by a longshot.

A great pianist can entrance you in their musicality, you can sit back in enjoy what you see, what you hear.

A great CS'ist will pwn you in .38 seconds with the knife and you have to sit back and sulk in your corner for another 3 minutes.

omg wtf This isn't a comparison. 😕

Playing piano and playing CS require totally different skillsets. You can't compare the two.
