Physx support for non-Nvidia card

So how will PhysX become compatible with existing hardware in the future? ( Including Ati card, Xbox360 which uses ati chipset, ps3 which doesnt seem to have physx support yet ).

I've heard the news that motherloads of game developers got on the PhysX bandwagon.
( including console develops )

So how will Physx play out in the future? Apparently at this time, theres no way
ati card can take advantage of physx.

So assuming that there are two versions of physx ( software/hardware)

hardware version will be
using physical card which comes with physx support.

software version will be
like an physx engine integrated in the game? ( just like havok is integrated in half life2 )
