Ha-ha, was thinking somewhat similar as well that an NVidia rep posted this stuff. But hard to know for sure, so won't blah it or anything...

The post is mainly just marketing type stuff is seems to make NVidia look like the bests or whatever.

Anyways, I personally still make my NVidia card do Physic stuff on the CPU and not the GPU. Never noticed a difference good or bad yet in any games I've played so far.

The worst thing is they still force it to be a NVidia only thing. Many more games would use it otherwise I'm sure.

You understand that is nothing related to the physics right? All physics do is handle the interaction of objects and the effects of physics in most games are flags waving, smoke and fire particles bouncing, that is about it.

So yeah, very limited with a big performance impact most of the time.
 
It's not like old PhysX capable Nvidia cards are that expensive.

I'm sure my 460 GTX 768mB would still make a great dedicated PhysX card.

It would definitely be serviceable, but I'm not sure how well it would perform for the latest PhysX powered games, which use way more particles than the older ones and more sophisticated effects.

I actually had a GTX 460 1GB edition for PhysX once, then I upgraded it to a GTX 650 Ti and the performance was much better, plus lower energy consumption.

You're thinking that PhysX is still separated by CPU and GPU. Like I've said previously, this isn't the case anymore.

Witcher 3 uses PhysX for all the low level stuff, which is done on the CPU. The high level stuff, which includes stuff like smoke, cloth, semi-volumetric clouds, water simulation etcetera will run on the GPU or CPU, but with much lower performance on the latter... I'm sure there will be multiple settings for this. It's possible that the lowest PhysX setting will use the CPU exclusively, as Witcher 3 will use PhysX 3.3 which runs very fast on the CPU and is multithreaded.

The mistake I made was that the hair and fur physics should use DirectCompute, since it's not simulation intensive..
