Physically Impossible to do HDR+AA?

running a X800GTO2 at X850XTPE and i run Source w/ Full HDR and 6x AA and 16x AF @1280x1024 and everything on max. in militia i get around 70-90fps... in office i get over 130fps

Unless they've patched it very recently, CS:Source doesn't actually use HDR.

DOD:Source would be a better test, since it does use HDR.

Too bad neither of those maps have any HDR effects. So far only Nuke and Militia have HDR effects.

HDR+AA is impossible? I have a 7800GT and run CounterStrike Souce with HDR and 4x AA enabled.

Am i not actually getting it? There's definately HDR and it looks anti-aliased.

Try reading the thread first. Valve uses pixel shaders or something like that which isn't fp blending so AA+HDR IS possible on that game.

CS_Militia got released last week and has HDR effects.

The people saying nVidia can't do HDR+AA full stop should read this thread properly. They can do at least ONE form of HDR+AA. Some of them may very well be those that think VTF is worthless but say R2VB is the proper way to do it. So one company supports one not widely used SM3 feature and another uses a not widely used (yet) HDR+AA feature, big deal.

Everyone is a fanboy of one side or the other and it is quite pathetic seeing "Geek Wars" every 2 weeks in here.

Alright, so Valve's is higher dynamic range then. I just wish the arguing would stop. And do you mean 16 bits per color component?

So how is Valve's HDR actually different from the floating point 16-bit OpenEXR? Valve's is a 16-bit integer instead?

Edit: OK, yeah you do mean 16bits per subpixel. 🙂
