Physical Memory Dump

Hi folks,

I've got a relatively new computer that I put together about a month ago. It runs windows 7 64-bit and uses a wireless USB network adapter.

I mention the adapter because last night the internet stopped working. When I unplugged that adapter, the screen immediately turned blue and told me it was dumping the memory.

I'm using an old TrendNet adapter, but when I installed Windows, I think it's using Real Tech drivers. I didn't want to mess with it, because the internet worked.

I've read that these memory dumps tend to get worse. What can I do?

They don't get worse like a disease, they're simply a side effect of whatever problem is going on. In your cause it sounds pretty obvious that it's the driver for that USB network adapter that's at fault.

If it only bluescreened when you unplugged the adapter, and then everything works fine again when you plug it back in, I wouldn't worry about it. There may be a problem with the driver when the adapter is unplugged, so just don't unplug it.

And as Nothingman says, bluescreens/dumps don't normally get worse like a disease. They might if you have hardware problems like popped caps, or failing hardrive (with bad sectors), but not normally from a poor driver.
