Physical Memory Dump

Hi- new here, but I've lurked for a while.

I just rebuilt my system from the motherboard up, and it seems to be working just fine- except that it will randomly wipe out to a BSOD: Dumping physical memory. What exaclty IS this and how can I correct it? I think I've stopped it from rebooting after this, but the BSODs come at unexpected times. As yet, I haven't found a pattern to what triggers them. I don't overclock, and so far all I've run are IMs, IE, Firefox, some installations like Spybot, etc.

Some barebones specs. If you need others, I'll be happy to find them- if you can also tell me where to look... :)

Windows 2000 Server
AMD Athlom XP2900+
AT/AT Compatible
1,048,048KB RAM

New system includes a new motherboard, CPU, fan, & DDR memory. CD drives, floppy, hard drives and cables, etc were from older machines and should still be working.

Thanks a ton!

no harm in running Memtest for a few hours

then run your Manufacturers HDD testing software.

Have you viewed your event logger??

Page file OK?

A. Before memtest, eliminate the problem by running in safe mode. If it still dumps then it MAY be an OS issue that may require a reformat. But before this do the stuff in B to make sure.

B. If it doesn't dump, then it may be a hardware issue. You can either start uninstalling drivers or pulling out cards until the problem goes away. If it still reboots, then run tests on the memory and CPU.
