Photoshop

yes there is. open up windows explorer.
go to tools>folder options
Click on file types
find the image type you want to associate with photoshop. If they are not listed, easiest way to add then is to simply double click them and browse for the photoshop exe file.
 
Right, i've followed you're steps but cant find the button that says what to associate it with, they are associated with paintshop so there is something to open them with i just want to change that

It's okay, we all have our dumb moments (me especially [I might be having one now]) but if your screen looks like mine then under the list of all the filetypes on your system you should have a button that says "Change" click on that and change the program to photoshop. It will not show photoshops Icon when you click okay but then when you close folder options, the filetype of your choice should now have a photoshop logo icon on it. I don't know if that made any sense but hopefully it helped in one way or another.

Isnt there a way to do it from within photoshop, i know there is in PSP i've looked for this in Photoshop but cant see it there
