I'm trying to draw a hollow square (like just the lines) and I cannot figure out how to do it :(

I've made a rectangle but it insists on keeping it as a filled solid color but all I want is the outline of the shape.

Stupid question yes, but please help.

With the rectangular marquee, make a rectangular selection (have a feather of 0, style is Normal).
Go to Edit --> Stroke
Select your Width, Color, and whether you want the stroke to be Inside, Center, or Outside the outline you made above.
OK and voila!

Alternatively you can draw your square, then select the layer (hold Ctrl+Click on the layer). Then you can go to Select, Modify, then Contract. Type in how many pixels you want the border of the square to be then hit Ok. When the dialog goes away, hit the delete key. This will clear out the interior of the square and leave just the outside lines.
