ok so i'm at work and my boss just told me there is a feature in photoshop (or so he believes) that let's u take an image and produce a data table of numbers representing all of the colors in the picture. now he wants me to find out how to do that. does anybody know what he's talking about?! thanks.

I've never heard of this, but does he understand that in a photo image, there could easily be millions of different colors?

If it's a simple image, you could collect the color values manually using the eye dropper tool.

The closest thing I can think of, offhand, is the histogram under the Image menu...but those are graphs. I don't have PS on this comp, so I can't check.

i dont think either. he wanted a chart of the numbers that represent the colors present in the picture.

The only thing in photoshop that I have seen kinda like this is the "Tools > histogram" option. But this gives only a plot of luminosity (with mean and SD) not a table.

If you want to do anything serious with the data, you could always import the picture into Matlab and get more information about the picture than you could ever use.

Of course, I dont know if you have access to Matlab, or if you really need to do any hardcore image processing, but if so it is a far better tool for this than photoshop itself. :)

Dont know if this was helpful at all... :)

weezergirl, i dont have photoshop on this lappy, but maybe he meant a colour pallete table? where is basically lists all colours used int he image according to a colour system, aka RGB/CMYK etc..
