Photoshop question

I am trying to send a friend a photoshop file.

In Photoshop CS for windows on my PC it shows up with layers, but when he tries to open it, it shows up as flattened...

Anyone have any ideas why? Is there anyway in PS to save as an older version? I know you can do that with Illustrator.

Are you sending him the standard Photoshop filetype(PDF)? If not, do.

Have you looked under Edit > Preferences > File Handling > Maximize PSD File Compatibility?

If that is already set as it should be (Always or Ask) try saving a Photoshop PDF version. Depending on the version your friend is using they may be able to open that.
