Photoshop Free Replacement

I'm looking for a good piece of freeware to do photoshop like stuff on win XP. Any ideas? My old photoshop 4 finally pooped out in XP, can't print.

Gimp or Pixia are both free.

I'd go for a copy of PaintShop Pro or Photoshop Elements. They're both excellent and cheap replacements for Photoshop 7.

Have you tried using XP's compatibility mode? I've used it to run a couple of programs on XP that won't run otherwise.
