Photoshop Crashing...

One of my Marketing/Advertising girls has a severe problem with Photoshop 7. If you try to open any file, it automatically shuts down photoshop. This is an in place upgrade from Photoshop 6 and 6 still functions on the PC as far as we can tell. 7 has been updated to 7.01 but still hasn't fixed the issue. Before I re-install both apps, is there anyone that has had this problem? My googling has turned up nothing.

Also we can't install Illustrator 10 on the machine. It is also an upgrade from Illustrator 9 and when you run the CD for 10 it cannot find 9 installed. Any Ideas?
 
No viruses found, but once I cleared the prefs file it seemed to work again. They swore up and down they already tried that.

As for the Illustrator, I did the patches for 9 (901 902) and it finally recognized 9 being on the system. Seemed to install and run just fine now.
