I'm used to autocad and not liking this, hold space for drag, hold alt for zoom.. etc.

is there a way to bind functions to specific keys?

perhaps a plug in?

Nope, you can only use keyboard shortcut but you can easily modify those commands. I would suggest you to remember those standard shortcuts because they are pretty much the standard for all graphic apps. Now, even Macromedia is bought by Adobe, so pretty much all of those professional graphic app will have the same keyboard shortcuts.

but if most of the graphic programs are similar way, I might as well get used to it
