Bought the Epson Photo 780 and used their included (with the printer) high quality photo-quality paper to make a few prints ...now about 2 months later the color is all faded out. Is this usual/expected with photo printers? Anything you can do to prevent it?

See that is the problem the ink used in most printers and most photo printers are not designed for the long term. If you keep the photos away from strong lights/sunlight but that is only going to do so much good. It will still degrade, I've heard about ink deisgned to last a long time was developed but never seen any of this sold.

i remember hearing that HP (i think) was coming out wiith a special ink that fades very little over 70 years. course, that doesn't help your current situation, but it's something to think about for the future.

photos do fade. there are inks that will last years, some claim 10, some 100 years... if you dont want them to fade, laminate them.

of course some epson inks do suffer from that cyan problem (looks like blue) which fades from ozone....

I read an article about a study on their ink a while ago, they claimed like 25 years, the study showed a faded picture in a matter of a couple weeks.
They wholeheartedly recommended you don't buy an Epson printer.
For that reason I bought my Canon S800 and am glad I did.
This post confirms the story was true.

Crap....I've got some family photos on the wall, printed on an Epson Stylus Color (maybe Stylus Photo). It was the first inkjet I ever bought. They've been on the wall over six years, out of the sunlight. Absolutely no fading and they were printed on standard inkjet paper....

All the photos I've printed out on my HP using HP premium photo paper still look great. Even the ones that are over a year old.

A couple years ago, Consumer Reports did a test for ink fade and found HP ink on HP photo paper to fade the least.

I just bought a Canon S9000 for the same reason. It is a wonderful printer and it is quick. Full Glossy A4 (right up to the edges) printing at 2400dpi in 40 Seconds...

Apparently, HP are bringing something new out soon to compete...
