Photo Printing

1. What is everyone using for photo printing?
2. Is there anything better than the EPSON Stylus Photo 2000P? Is this printer available yet?
3. Is there any better bang for your buck than the Canon S9000?

What does everyone think?

I used the epson 875DC until I got the s9000 through the Dell deal. The s9000 is much much faster and quieter. Image quality on photopaper is slighter better as well. For the money the s9000 is much better buy than the 2000p. It may also have better color depth as well.

on thick photo paper, hwo good is the quality of printouts compared to actual photo prints that u get developed?

also, how much are the ink cartridges?

the more i think about it, it doesn't seem cost-effective to make your own prints...especially since photo developers can print digital media anyway...am i missing something aside from the convenience of it?

I have the Epson 785EPX. It's their high-end Photo Printer for consumers. I love it. It does waste a bit of ink, but the photos when printed on photo quality gloss paper, you cannot tell the difference between them and 35mm prints. It's basically for ease of use. I can take my Digital Camera anyway, take a bunch of shots and only print however many i need.

you can do that anyway at a photo developer...just put those photos you want developed on a disc and they'll develop them for u...and it's probably hell of a lot cheaper.

it's nice to know that the quality is up there tho...

how are the laser color printers for photos?...are the inkjets the best?

Canon S800 here, awesome printer, individual color cartridges and beatiful 4x6 or 8x10 prints on Canons Photo paper.
The 900 replaced the 800, worth every penny.

<and it's probably hell of a lot cheaper>

Well considering i don't have to pay $3-4 for a roll of film, and $6-7 to have my prints printed makes it easy.

Walmart (they are probably the cheepest) charges something like $.26 cents a print. I can purchase a pack of 20 sheets of Photo Quality Gloss for $10. I can print 2 5x7's on one sheet, so that's 50 pictures for $10. Walmart would charge $13. Of course that doesn't factor in my ink, but i use it anyway for so many other things, it doesn't fully factor into the equation. Plus you'd have to include the gas and time to drive all the way out there, and then all the way back. It's more time consuming. Also i can crop and do whatever i want to my pictures on the spot.

Plus the cost of having to put them on a disc for them. I mean home inkjet printing really isn't THAT far off from 35mm prints. Sure 35mm is still superior and cheaper, but it's great to have your own little photo studio at home to play around with and print whenever you need to.

u can have a digi cam and still not have to pay for film...
and u can still crop, edit, etc. your pics before u put them on a disc and bring them to wal-mart, who, in return, gives u back yoru disc.

adn 35mm is still superior to inkjet printing, so your prints look better....

if u can print 2 5x7s per sheet, how do u get 50 prints per 20 sheets?..u'd get 40.
also, ink is expensive.

anyway, this is getting out of hand...i'm not knocking photo inkjet printers - i'd like to get one, though i'm not sure it would suit me any better than a basic color printer, while getting my photos developed somewhere else.

i must say if you have a walmart photo center nearby.. do it. .26 is hard to beat. load up the fuji icc profile, edit to your hearts content.. ie, crop the way YOU want.. not the way they auto do it.... the first time i uploaded my pics (my local walmart is 20 min away and has a continuing broken cdrom), i forgot to adjust the aspect ratio.. and my prints came out missing the tops of ppls heads 🙂

However, my fustration w/ my local walmart, and when i don't want to wait 1 week for prints to deliver.. i got a canon s820 (well, sorta.. my siblings needed a color printer for school, and i needed a printer for college, so sorta split the deal w/ the parents). It's a little more expensive, but i don't have to deal with all the hassle.

The local ritz/motophoto wants $10 a sheet.. ugh.

and reicherb, what are you printing? those are some high end ink jets you may not need to waste money on...

I bought an S9000 from Dell a weeks ago for $309.00 (due to a Dell website price mistake!). So far I've printed 15 or so photos taken with a Canon G1 using Canon photo paper and the results have been nothing but stunning! Right out of the box. I haven't had to do anything special other than a printhead alignment during the setup. The prints, when compared to regularly developed photos, are very bit as good as far as I or any of my friends can tell!! On good quality photo paper, you simply cannot tell unless you have a loupe or some sort of magnifying glass...I've even run one of the prints under a facet of running water; no ink smear, smudge, or runoff!

I'm amazed at how FAST this thing is (8.5 x 11 photo in 1 minute!!!) and how extremely QUIET it is. All the reviews that I read indicate exactly what I've encountered thus far.
