photo gallery html tools

Man the forums look wild today...

anyway, I am making a personal website for my photos and I want to have links to click on and have them load on the html page. HOWEVER, I dont want to have to make an html page for each and every photo. What kind of tools can I use that will autoload from a database of images? I dont really know what to look for on google... what is this like php or java? I just want somehting basic that I can build on if I need to.

an example of what I am talking about would be like on the photo sample galleries on dpreview.com. You click on a photo and it loads it in a pretty page rather than a borring ie pop-up window containg only the jpg.. you know what Im talkin about...

I've got an XP slideshow generator that works pretty nice. You just point it to the directory of pictures you want to use and it geneartes all the html. The default view is a slideshow, but you can add advanced options to it and let the user view just pictures. Pretty nice. If you want it, PM me.

I don't know about plain html pages, but if your web server supports PHP, make sure you look at Gallery. See the sample galleries on their website before you see anything else. This is one of the best galleries I've seen, and they've managed to keep it simple (well, the installation can be comfusing sometimes, but using it is easy).

You can use photoshop to generate an html image gallery.

Yeah that would be awesome!! How do you do that? Can it also generate thumbnails?

File -> Automate -> Web Photo Gallery 🙂

But I'd recommend Coppermine as well.

Yo Ross,

Is there anything better right now than the 3G/30G through Thrillhost (you know, the deal from a year ago)?

$ wise, nothing can beat it but ThrillHost is now owned by midPhase.com and I have no comment regarding that company 😉

If you're not actually using your entire 3GB/30GB I would highly recommend BlueWho.com but it's 1/2 resources at 2x the cost.

I tried and failed to install that thing 3 times. Spend some evenings getting real frustrated!

I never could install gallery either. The actual install was ok but it's the configuring part where I would screw it up.

Coppermine is easy to install and easy to use 🙂
