Phone with good and loud speaker?

Now this may seem like kind of a dumb thing to want...but one of the things that I use my phone for the most is as a music player - either out chipping golf balls in the back yard, out by the pool, etc.

My OG Droid had an absolutely phenominal speaker. Sound quality is fair to good, but volume is outstanding.
My DX has unimpressive sound. About 70% the max volume of the OG Droid. I even used some sound mod on it and it only helped a little.
I've read that the DX2 is even worse than the DX.

So, what's the best 4"+ Verizon phone for speaker sound output?
Is anything as good as the OG Droid?

in my experience motorola has had the best speakerphones. Take a look at the droid 3 that is out/coming out soon, it may be quite similar to your OG droid.

You're gonna be hard pressed to find a phone that beats Motorola in terms of speaker quality. The Droid is like a damn boombox.

Here's what I can say though, the HTC phones absolutely suck dick in this territory. While max volume is loud on say a Nexus One or Desire HD, they're unusable below 50% volume. Something about the volume makes it ramp up more at higher volumes. However, the speaker is so small it's very tiny sounding still and yuck.

I believe the Galaxy S phones are a little better in this regard. The sound is more full and louder, but with my Nexus S and Motorola Milestone side by side, the Milestone wins HANDS DOWN. The Droid 2 seems to perform equally from what I've observed with my friend's phone. I miss my phone calls a lot when I'm out on my Nexus S unless at full volume. And even then I feel like I'll only catch calls if I'm at some quiet place or driving (without blasting music).

In my experience Samsung have the best inbuilt speakers, but you may want to look into getting something like this:

My Droid 1 has a nice speaker and puts out some good sound. My girlfriend has the Galaxy S and she uses it mostly to play her MP3s on the speaker. It has decent sound too. Better than most, but not as good as the Droid.
