I was wondering if there was a device that I could hook up to my phone and have it record both sides of the conversation. It would be really nice if I could have it record directly to my computer. Is there anything that would record the phone conversation directly to my computer?
 
That has been possible since the 50s. But, unless you warn the other party that you are recording the conversation, it is in fact, illegal in most states. Do a Google for Phone Recorder and you'll come up with too many to list.

I found a program, callcorder, but it doesnt work too well. What should I search for if I want to find a program that records phone conversations to my computer?
 
The only way a program could do this without hardware is if you have a modem and run the line through it. Otherwise you would need a device to sit on your phone line and send the audio to your sound card line-in, or sample it to USB, or something.
