some chick I know on icq is having this problem. how would she go about fixing it? I asked her if the speaker was plugged into the right jack and in all the way and she said yes. what else could be the problem?

Thanks

Go to control panel and click on modems hit properties and slide the modem volume slider all the way to the left. This won't work on some modems, but maybe it might work with hers.

If I read your post correctly, you're saying that it will not dial. The most common cause of this with phone modems is reversed wiring at the phone outlet.

Go to radio shack and get a outlet tester. It's just an LED which checks polarity and glows green for good and red for reversed. They used to give them away for free, but now charge 5 bucks or so.

I just reread the posters message. What kind of modem does she have? She might want to look for updated drivers and try removing the modem from device manager and letting windows pick it back up upon reboot. If windows doesn't have the drivers natively then make sure she has the drivers from the manufacturers website.

Good luck
